System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Oh!

Hi Maurizio,

Indeed, but my home nearly seems now like a Naim shop

IMHO, the Kan speaker, stand combo is one of my favourite looking speakers. They just look 'right'

Whoops! My apologies to Londoner100 and his impressive unit.

Many thanks all, took me a week and half to build it and there is room to upgrade if I shuffle things around.

Ready for LPs

a rash rush of changes in 2016! fortunately, they've all been for the better.

my trusty Rega P5 has gone to a nice gentleman in upstate New York, replaced by an LP12 with an Aro, Kore, Radikal, and a Zu Audio DL-103 cartridge, whose bouncy presentation i quite like. Peter from Cymbiosis stopped by on one of his many world travels, installed the Radikal, and set up the turntable.

my Supernait has also departed, replaced by a freshly-serviced 282 and 250.2, with a Chord 2Qute and Sonore microRendu handling streaming duties, which for us mostly involves Internet radio. i tried running 2 Hicaps on the 282, but that arrangement didn't really do it for me. so, i hooked up Hicap numero dos to the CD5.

so -- what's next? Peter is sending me a loom of Chord Shawline cables to connect my DAC and phono stage to the 282, and to connect the microRendu to the DAC. this is mostly to salve my audiophilia nervosa. speaking of: i got on the Cisco switch bandwagon and will hook that up tomorrow, while my wife is off doing wife stuff.

i'm probably going to start using Roon to drive the streaming element, so that may be on the cards before the year is out. the only other upgrades i'm considering is a Hicap DR or Supercap for the 282, and an Auditorium 23 step-up transformer for the Denon 103. i've heard that this is a big leap forward for the good ole Denon.

Who'd need a TV with a window like that.

@LONDONER100

I'm intrigued as to how well the RX1s work that close to the sidewalls?  Did you try them a bit closer to the tv before settling on that position?

BTW Very nice job on the unit.

joe,

Aside from the splendid view out the window I'm intrigued by the books and other items in your racking. Presumably for damping case resonance and eliminating shelving, but have you given consideration to the effect they may present as negative heat sinks or microphonic collectors/distributors in your system?
