System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

I had it serviced by B&W about 18 months ago so yes, it sounds wonderful.
Wow, always want to have one but never got further than the DR2![]()

I'm intrigued as to how well the RX1s work that close to the sidewalls? Did you try them a bit closer to the tv before settling on that position?
BTW Very nice job on the unit.
Many thanks Johnell, The RX1's work really well close to the wall (they even sell a wall bracket) the brackets are bolted to the wall and the position was decided on by the boss at home, we have experimented on toe in and settled on this as the best compromise. The RX1's have a rear port but it is pretty benign in its output. Next step may be some ATC SCM 11's or an Atom if I ever fall into any money.

Those Dragon pics gave me a woody. Reminds me of when I first got into hifi, and that would have been one of the "ultimates" to achieve.
And Joe9407 has my fave window on the forum...makes me homesick. Nice upgrades too!
Thanks for sharing again Kev.
For me the Dragon is Naks best looking product.Just stunning. And with the auto reverse an hour and a half of playback, it doesn't get much better. Its on my audio lust list, big time.
Wishing you a relaxing Sunday....all good here.Beef casserole in the oven and cleaning done.Radio 3 on the 01 and sounding beautiful with some baroque.Last night my girlfriend and I where playing loads of vinyl. My Bloody Valentines Ecstacy album." Please lose yourself in me " sounded amazing.Hadnt heard it for a good twenty years.
Cheers Ian

joe,
Aside from the splendid view out the window I'm intrigued by the books and other items in your racking. Presumably for damping case resonance and eliminating shelving, but have you given consideration to the effect they may present as negative heat sinks or microphonic collectors/distributors in your system?
thanks for the kind words, everyone!
Joerand: there's no "audiophilic" reasons for the books -- i just like the way they look and feel they liven up what would otherwise be a fairly utilitarian corner of the room. i considered that they may be a SQ drawback, but i can't hear much of a difference whether they're there or not, so i've let them stay. the bust on top of the 282 is a really heavy chunk of iron (bought at an antiques shop in Iceland) which is probably not ideal to have on top of one's preamp, but what can i say -- i like it!

A little bit too much information, perhaps?
The Nak Dragon looks better than all Naim gear ever made![]()
Some people have rather bizarre aesthetic tastes ![]()

Oh come on - it was only a metaphorical woody. ![]()

I knew that Rega made wall mounts for the RX1s so obviously they are expected to work well enough there but I was actually wondering how well they worked hard up against the sidewalls Ian.
The reason I ask is that my room is only 9ft wide and my Kudos C10s really don't like being too close to the sidewalls. Even moved closer together and toed in, I've had to put acoustic panels on one wall and a heavy rug on the other to dampen the first reflection.

Which reminds me of a real life story from about 16+ years ago; I was dating a woman with 2 sons for 3 years, and her 5 year old Jason was really into that movie. So for Christmas I had given him a Woody doll that said Woody things when you pulled the string.
His mother had him write me a thank you note, which written in his own hand, of his own composition, simply said when I opened it:
"Dear Mark, Thanks for the Woody, Love, Jason"
His mom and I made instant eye contact & had to really work to suppress our laughter, because of course we didn't want to taint his sincere childlike expression of gratitude.

Ah I see where you are coming from, my demo was with the Regas in a large room with with lots of space around the speakers, I was initialy worried about placing them in the alcove but there does not seem to be any noticeable (to my ears) difference, the biggest change was finding out the optimal distance from the rear wall for me, whether I have managed to "tune out" the side walls I am not sure.

Looking at your picture again I would think your drivers are far enough forward that the side walls won't affect them too much, if at all. Time to sit back and enjoy the system. ![]()
