System Pics 2016

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

So just got myself a NAP150, so now i'm using the UQ as a PRE very impressed. Will be upgrading to a NAC-N 172 sometime in 2016. Oh and a xmas tree!!

From December 18, 2015

Hi,

That's a great looking system!  I'm sure it sounds fantastic too.  I think the UQ is really impressive for the price.

I've got a UQ too, and I'm just awaiting delivery of a NAP150, so I'll soon be running a very similar system.  I'm also thinking about a speaker upgrade next year, and I wondered what speakers you were using with your UQ/NAP150 combination.

I also think the green RP6 is one of the best looking turntables around.

Hi thanks for the kind comments.

When I got the UQ I was playing it through, Dali Ikon 1's, which I though where great fantastic bass for there size and as they had a super tweter type array very open but not over bright.

I now have some lovely vintage Royd Minstrels, which again for there size have outstanding bass response. Can't put my finger on why I like them more then the Ikons, one thing I will say is that the music just sounds right.

Hope this helps.

Magnus - what is your impression of the differences between the new amp and your prior Nait?   I would think quite significant?

I really like the clean lines of this room as well, and the system isn't too shabby either!

Martin: how has your sound been affected by a asymmetry from speaker to each side wall?  I ask because I have a somewhat similar issue but not to the extent that yours appears to be.  (Although I know pictures can be pretty misleading about distances and perspective at time.)

I will post a pic or 2 after the Christmas holiday; no system changes but some room changes.

Also (now that I look closer) what are those big Plexiglas or acrylic looking things that hold the 2 graphics on each side of the Fraim?  I see them wrapping all the way around to the back wall, and I am intrigued.

DrMark,

I'm not trying to answer for Martin and I may well be wrong, but are you looking at the speaker cables supported by orange cable elevators?

Posted on: 23 December 2015 by DrMark

Holy crap Joe that's exactly what it is - when I first looked it appeared those two graphics were "in the air" which gave me the visual image I thought I saw.

I still want to know about the speaker placement though!

I have to start drinking...

Hi DrMark,

yes small bamboo wooden blockes where ma speaker cables are placed - not to touch floor.

Regading speaker placement. I thought it will be big problem but in fact it is not.

my dealer measured acoustics in my room we installed various Vicoustics panels and now I have little problem (measured by my dealer) around 60Hz on left speaker close to fireplace.

But in reality I do not hear any problem.

What I do is when I listen I put speakers little bit more close to listening position.

Then I have better soundstage, 3D sound and vocals are better.

Speakers are appr 2m apart and 2,4 m from listening position.

2 graphics I use only for hiding cables. My boss insisted on this :-)

Martin,

Are you using more than the Wavewood panels shown in the photo, if so where? Did it take much trial and error to arrive at the placement for the panels above your TV?

Posted on: 23 December 2015 by MartinKocurek

Hi Joerand,

if go few posts back you can see I have more different panels.

My dealer is very experienced and he recommended all different pannels for different frequencies and the result is great.

I have invested 2k EUR and was very good investment

Martin,

Thanks, yeah I just scrolled up to your ceiling/back wall photo. I've got a few wavewoods that I've been somewhat blindly placing about my room. Looks like I need to get a professional in house with many more panels to get in the game. Cheers!

Enjoy it :-) I like all activities regarding sound tuning :-)

It's the Pro-Ject 2experience SuperPack :-) very nice IMO. Will upgrade to 2M Bronze or Black when the 2M Blue is "worn out"..

Newest addition to system are the Ovator S400, these baby's just work perfectly in this room. Only had them a couple of weeks so looking forward to getting lots of new music for Christmas.

I can't see a number of pics (although I can see Sergej's absolutely gorgeous rosewood SL2s). Too bad.

I have decided I'll post my system's pics when Christopher comes over and photographs it! Chris, please, plan a trip... We have a very comfortable sofa/bed for guests, and Milano is full of beautiful girls (the two things not necessarily related).

Please take your camera too!

Having worked for a while in Milan, I can happily confirm Massimo's observation !

Hi Roberto

Thank you for your comments, the stripes are wallpaper, not got the patience to paint and wanted to try and damp the echo in room.

Happy Christmas
