System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

I'd also like to know more about the non-Fraim rack on the right.

Looks like a Target 5 Tier rack to me
Playing around with the Prisma app on my phone.

It seems to have straightened the Sopras ![]()

Roadie,
you are correct. I must have had this rack for 25 years. Originally it held my separates. Now it is just the brawn stack. A couple of the shelves have some rubber mountings to provide isolation but I don't know how good this is. I did plan to go full Fraim but they do not make that wood colour any more.
To the other points: the speakers sound as good as they look even though they are still only 30 hours old. The SL cable is a great step up over NACA5. I also have the rest of the loom installed. The only bit to do now is get the 500 back for a DR job and we are done.
Dave

Dave - I can recommend Vertere links - a perfect compliment to SL cables.
I noticed the power block there [@mention:1566878603887149]. Does it impact on the sound at all?

Ahhh he good old days when all racks were tubular steel (or angle al la Mana) I had Audiotech myself. Still have a wall shelf in the loft!!
Bodger,
A lovely looking music maker of a system there. Delighted that you found the right speakers for your system & room.
Best regards, FT

That Audiotech is one of the best shelves ever made. If you won't need it you could get decent money for it.

Finkfan, I don't know. I have used it for years. I keep meaning to get one of the recommended ones off here but have not done so yet.

FT,
thanks and also for the steer on the Arts. I'm glad I tried them so that question was answered for me. I nearly bought them but wanted to try some more and glad I did. For me at least, the 802's work better although if B&W were still on the D2 I would not have gone there. I think Lars ended up with Arts, possibly Diamonds?
So the project is done. I must admit I am glad and have no impulse to make any more changes now. Good place to be. And I have learned how to post pictures on here too so win win. Next time I shall vac up before I post though.
Dave
Badger,
So you have decided on the 802 D3. Now sit back and just enjoy the music coming from that lovely speakers

Question for HH...
On what day do you suppose you'll be starting the 2017 version of this thread ?
I just want to make sure I have a decent pic ready and loaded onto photobucket in order to catch an early page in the new year's thread
It was 21 December last year. I could do the same this year, which would be nice as we will be in Vienna, or I could wait till later. If it's alright with everyone I'll go with the 21st.
21.12 it is then.

Sounds good, although I can think of other things to do whilst you're in Vienna than start a new forum thread (note - I said 'other', not 'better' )
Enjoy Vienna, it's a wonderful place with wonderful people - I think they closed down the Virgin Megastore where I used to work occasionally ![]()
Unfortunately the tour of the sewers is closed. But Hilary is beside herself with the thought of cakes! And we have tickets for the State Opera, so I'm sure it will be fun.

I'm with you on the 'cakes', HH, but I've never been able to get my head around opera in general... but then it's not me who's going to the opera, is it? Have a wonderful time ![]()
Opera has always been a step too far for me too....until lately when I heard Mozarts Don Giovanni on R3.....amazing........and now top of this years Christmas present list. I must be getting old/middle class.

Its a good start.
Do try Marriage of Figaro next for a really fun and feel-good opera with amazing music. Just try the overture. Sorry- getting enthused- but you've got so much ahead of you.
Other Ray
Thanks Other Ray,
I certainly intend to try all of Mozart's operas as fast as I can buy them.
Original Ray
Been to a lot of operas - can't beat Glyndebourne - fabulous experience, and once the new opera house opened it was even better !!!
Since this is a pics thread, and the city of Wien has entered the discussion, I take the liberty to add a few images that could make HH's trip even more pleasant. I've visited Vienna a lot between 1996 and 2001.. So, to have a few pauses from culture:
Trzesniewski, am Graben - the pedestrian zone:

where they only serve (well, they used to) egg tarts, made in all the imaginable ways, to eat with a Pfiff (or three):

(a Pfiff is 125 ml, so not very adventurous).
Then, I distinctly remember having eaten (many locals are positive on this) the best Wiener Schnitzel ever here:

At the Ubl Gasthaus. It's cooked in boiling lard, it's served HOT and it's probably better than sex.
My österreichische Freundin used to take me here around half morning:

At the black Camel (zum Schwarzen Kameel), for a sekt, and the feeling of belonging:

and, for those who only love sweets and cakes, here:

at Demel.

Wanting to mix culture and relax, this is Cafe Bräunerhof, where Thomas Bernhard used to spend time reading, writing or who knows doing what, apart from detesting Austria and Austrians:

But my fondest memories (bar those of my österreichische Freundin) are of die Heuriger

small pubs on the hillside, where they do, and serve, their own light white wine, too delicate to be carried elsewhere, and that can be had mixed with soda, which makes a deceiving drink that makes you feel in love with the world, and that goes down so gently, you drink five or six before realising it's twilight, and you'll have to do the walk back home by yourself... But with this in your eyes:

Sorry for hijacking the thread,
M
