System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

I almost didn't dare sharing my modest set, but since we are all enthousiasts, I didn't feel like keeping my happiness to myself. So, there it is, the old and the new combined! UQ V1 / NACA5 / Quad ESL57

I'd love to hear these speakers once in my system

You're welcome for a listen at my place, in the north of The Netherlands!

Sweet mewsic makers!

G

Ron Postlethwaite impersonation:  Brassed Off .. 1996 ..

Where do I pick up my prize Graeme ?

You've lost me there John...?

G

Graeme:

I do apologize, I was obviously joining dots that weren't there.

The movie, Brassed Off made in 1996 and starring Ron Postlethwaite as the leader/mentor/conductor of a colliery brass band.  A wonderful movie, deep anti-Thatcher sub text .. but wonderful music.  The brass band in the movie was the actual Grimethorpe colliery brass band.

Anyway, to make a long story really boring, there's a line in the movie where Danny, played by Ron Postlethwaite, says "It's all about the mewsic innit?" .. in a strong Yorkshire accent of course.

Probably more than you ever wanted to know .. the movie is well worth watching though.

Apologies again.

John.

Apologies absolutely not necessary...I've seen the film so should have realised the reference.

Victoria Wood does a good skit on the theme too.

Best

G

Of course it's Pete .. not Ron .. Here's a wonderful clip: "Orange Juice" ..  Tara Fitzgerald is enough to make anyone's lips go hard.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT... Shame... Wanted to make a socks-up picture with green backlight, but that's where Philips really misses a point, their Hue is not good at Greens. Seems almost yellow!!

So yes .. I've gone through a bit of an upgrade splurge and managed to smuggle this lot in without the other half noticing.

What are the odds! I have nearly the same setup in the downstairs loo.

Hi, based on the feedback I got from the forum, I rearranged my system.  Many thanks for that; it sounds more natural and with better image now.  I am really enjoying a lot of good music.  Here it is an updated picture.  On the left is the 300 DR in separated shelves.  At the center is the N272, and, at the top-right is the XPS DR.  I also moved the BD and Tivo into separated shelfs.  My PC is directly connected to the TV via HDMI for video with audio out through USB/Audiophilleo SPDIF converter to the 272.   The BD is connected to the Denon receiver for multi channel and directly to the 272 via Toslink for stereo audio only.  The L/R main speakers are routed from the receiver to the 272 via analog connection for movies.

If you ever fancied it, I'd suggest trying swapping the 300 boxes around, so the PS is the higher of the two. Just because the (quite large) transformer is on the right of the PS as you look at it from the front, which means it's still pretty close to your preamp.

Whether you want/can be arsed to try it or not, it's a lovely system, glad you are enjoying it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dave.  I will try tomorrow, that would be easy to do.

A bit of pre-xmas painting, decorating and room rearrangement provided a perfect opportunity for a system strip down, re-build and re-arrangement. Sounding better than ever.

Just to say that I've started the 2017 thread a couple of days earlier than a said above. I've been struggling to post pictures from my phone and really don't want to take my heavy old iPad on the plane. I hope that's ok.
