DAB+ and N

Posted by: BMJ73 on 19 December 2015

Hi

I am not sure if my nd5 xs supports DAB+. Looking on the website and in the manual leaves me a bit confused. I have a few channels that are no longer available and they seems to have been changing to DAB+

Do I need a firmware update? I have the Tidal firmware already.

Best regards

The Naim products page (www) shows "Optional DAB+/DAB/FM radio module"
This means the optional radio module is DAB+
Why not run a re-tune & see what new stations come up.

Hi

I've done that a couple of times. The channels come up, the signal strength is at max, but no reception from 4 of the channels. According to the broadcast station these 4 channels exclusively has changed to DAB+. In my manual DAB+ is not mentioned like on the www as you pointed out. The system status says Radio: RS1.2.2.2 don't know if that's an old DAB module not capable of DAB+?

There was a thread a few weeks ago where someone had lost some DAB stations on an ND5 XS after doing the firmware update for Tidal (Naim streamer firmware version 4.4). A rescan didn't help him.

Ultimately that was solved by him resetting his ND5 XS back to factory settings, which you do via the spanner button on the remote and then doing a rescan.  Naim recommend doing a factory reset after a firmware update and although the update software gives you a message saying that it is doing that, in practice it doesn't reset everything. So you need to do it properly yourself.

I don't think any of the UK stations are DAB+. See my earlier email for my suggestion.

BMJ73,  I advise to send an e-mail to Naim about this.
I am not aware there was a module change from DAB only to DAB+,   but you never know,  Naim have been very non-communicative about radio over the years.  I advise to include your ND5 serial number in case there was such a module change.
But before that I would try the suggestion of David's to do a reset to factory defaults.  I had not realised that v4.4 had affected the radio module,  not sure how,  but hey-ho its worth a try.

David,  yes you're correct about UK & DAB+,  there are some local tests going on, but nothing that's public.  However I suspect BMJ73 is not UK -  I know Holland is changing over to DAB+,  so where are you BMJ73 ???

Hi

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately no solution yet. I will ask support and let you know. I'm located in Denmark. The national Danish radio have split two channels into four regional channels by using DAB+ since + improve capacity.

Happy holidays

This thread from May 2013 https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...l-extra-on-unitilite seems to say that FM/dab modules on Naim streamers from about that date will have dab+. I think the ND5-XS was introduced late 2012, so maybe a very early one won't have dab+. Definitely a call to Naim support on Monday sounds a good idea and I suggest to have your serial number handy.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm starting to believe that I might have an early DAB/FM module since my ND5 xs is from 2012 - bought second hand. If anyone having a newer ND5 I could navigate the menu to "System status" and check if it says  "Radio: RS1.2.2.2" like mine or a different number, I would be happy. Anyway I also send an email to support.

Customer support just replied - very quick response indeed  - I have a DAB/FM module with no DAB+ support. It was changed to DAB+ in March 2013.

So, iRadio it is for me. Not a problem just curious what was going on.
