F1 - 2016 Season

To kick this off,  unfortunately what might prove in time to be bad news  ....... but ya never know.

BBC Sport is to "reluctantly" end its Formula 1 television contract three years early as part of savings across
the corporation;    there is a £150m gap in the corporation's finances & BBC Sport has to deliver £35m in savings.
Channel 4 will take on the BBC's F1 broadcast rights from next season.
BBC Radio 5 live has extended its commentary rights for F1 until the 2021 season.

No news on the BBC commentary teams situation

Radio communication ban lifted ... good.

Track limit penalties being stopped ... bad!

They perhaps need to make the physical penalty of off-track more severe, rather than control it procedurally. I know it's a fine balancing act between making off-track slower, or more likely to damage your car and the safety aspect of it.

Having now dropped The Halo for 2017, fingers crossed there are no head injuries next year. Heaven forbid just such an accident, wouldn't make the decision makers look very good would it...Though I'm sure Bernie would just say  'That's racing'.

F1’s become so sanitised a serious injury due to head impact seems very unlikely, although the decision to penalise Rosburg for what appeared to be a classic overtaking manoeuvre, will have produce a few scratched head.

When was the last time an F1 driver was killed by a strike to the head. Massa was injured by debris from another car, but I doubt the halo would have prevented it.

Jules Bianchi crashed into a project on a recovery vehicle, whether the HALO would have prevented or reduced his injuriesI don't know.

It's not just F1 that the HALO technology is being considered for, it is envisaged that all open cockpit cars could have a version.

Henry Surtees  was hit and killed by a loose wheel in an F2 race and Justin Wilson was killed in an Indycar race when a piece of bodywork entered his cockpit and hit his head.

+1   .........  I was amazed that Rosberg tried the same trick on Verstappen as he did on Hamilton,  then in the interview tried to say he was on full lock !!!   he needs a reality check.   At least the stewards didn't bottle making the right decision this time.

New Zealander Chris Amon has passed away at 73.

He was known as one of the greatest drivers never to win a Grand prix.

Is / was F1 (digitally) broadcasted in surround format or just stereo on BBC?

Nothing like a good crash to liven things up. Massive crash. Good to see Kevin is ok although it was scary to see that headrest  detach itself so easily from the car. Race stopped and should restart  once tire wall is rebuilt.

Excellent race from Lewis, started from the back & finishing 3rd !!  But it has to be said the gods were on his side & a lot of other drivers errors made it easier or even made it possible.

Nice to see Daniel take a well earned 2nd.  Red Bulls seem to have some mojo back.

Will be interesting to see how the tifosi react for/against the Ferrari performance next week
