Nac 202, Nap 200, FlarcapXS, CD5XS all sold. No more Naim. So goodbay.

Hallo to Rega

Enjoy you music, MP-W.

MP-W seems like an angry chip on shoulder; the problem I can't understand is looking at his forum post history is his last post prior to this latest "I've sold my Naim" outburst was in 2014;  so its hard to understand why/what the problem is.  He seems to have a thing about Naim pricing & somehow no support for a problem; so what was that all about & was it Naim support or a dealer.
I hope he finds whatever audio happiness with Rega,  but somehow I doubt it.

Rega is good for the money. Very good actually. Wrong forum though.

Have fun.

Yeah the tone seems a bit off but am willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Things get lost in translation on the forum all the time.

HiFi is a big ocean with many different types of fish. Not one can satisfy the taste of every diner. I've had a few bits of Rega in the past that were great, though going back to it wouldn't be an option. Many of us here have had convoluted journeys to the system we are at now and have come and gone with Naim over the years. Who knows, the OP may be back in 10 years with nearly the same system he sold.

Have fun with the Rega.

Yes wrong forum & yes nothing wrong with Rega, or Linn or Cyrus or .........  ,  but if you've sold your Naim why post that you've done so;  are we all gonna sell up in sympathy.      Move on on MP-W,  enjoy whatever your new brand might be,  but if you are tearing the wings off the Naim brand because you're angry ,  better  go seek some anger management help.

Hallo to Rega

That's what I like about Naim, if for some reason  one decides to sell, the demand is great in the 2nd hand market. So you've made a wise decesion. Enjoy Your Rega. Within the last two years, I forked out a large sum on 2nd Naim gear.

2008 282    3.4K

2014 hi Dr  1.6K

2012 200.   2.0K

2012 250.   3.4K

2008 Cdx2. 1.7K

2015 250.   4.0K

4 tier fr Lite 1.2K

That's 17.5K, if I needed some Cash Real bad, the 2nd hand market would relinkquish 14K within 2 weeks.

I kind of look at it as an Investment in Sound$$$$.

Rega is good value for money and has a slightly different flavor than Naim. Once the novelty wears off he might begin to wonder why he switched.

McIntosh, for example, would be a more radical change as it's a completely different philosophy.

They each have their strengths and weaknesses and all hold their value well as long as you keep it simple.

All-in-ones and streamers are poor investments. In that respect you have less chances of going down the rabbit hole with Rega than with Naim. I could live with either quite easily.

I'd probably be quite happy with McIntosh as well but would hold on to my Naim/Rega gear for a while just to make sure.

It begs the question, why did you buy it all in the first place, if you are happy with gear costing considerably less?
If I were happy with the sound of equipment at a lower price level, I'd be quids in !

I abandoned a Nait 5 after a month of ownership for Rega Cursa/Maia before returning to Naim amplification piecemeal in the form of 282/Hi/250. There was a lot of music this Naim system did better but there were some recordings I just stopped listening to.

That's funny though: I used to be all Rega when I met a guy with a private Naim studio. He told me Naim is Porsche and Rega is Volkswagen and gave me a demo. I was so flashed I could not resist buying me a SN2, selling the Elicit and today I only still have an love Rega turntables. Also the Rega Aria is a better match with the TT than the Superfine. All the rest is NAIM.

I like the fact that Naim allows such a post though. "Sold my Porsche because I believe Volkswagen is better value for the money". He is right but boy how do I love my Porsche...

Cheers,

Chris

^ My feeling is that Naim offers better value for money than Rega, even though it's dearer. But Rega make much to like and quite a bit of it goes well with naim.

I thought I would add my own announcement ;

I have NOT sold my Naim equipment

Whatever system you have is perfect if you enjoy the music it reproduces.

Enlightening thread, but seems to me what this forum really needs is a new heartfelt discussion of practical trousers.

On Christmas Eve, someone bought some Barefoot Shiraz round. We were drinking white, but as they wanted red, I gave them a glass. After they'd gone I poured out a glass for myself. It was so bad that I tipped it, and the rest of the bottle, down the sink. Do I go on the Barefoot website and tell them that their wine is no good? No, I don't.

Looks a good party though...

Really not a huge deal. I sold an entire Linn system and went to Yamaha, Onkyo and Bose and was stuck there for a decade. I beleived I would be with Linn forever but things change.

Admitedly my musical enjoyment was stunted. When I tried to come back Linn was a very different company to what had been in the 90s and Naim won.

Let people make whatever journey they wish.

I really don't see the point of these threads. It's like the posters are saying 'I'm better than you, I can see that Naim is rubbish, ha ha you fools, you don't realise'.

Not everyone likes Naim and there are loads of viable alternatives I'm sure.

+1, I hope you will enjoy your new Rega setup...

That's a good point - I normally part exchange mine for different and better Naim - or keep it for my second system - or just keep it as I don't want to part with it

I like Rega stuff a lot too

You've hit the nail on the head, short  and sweet. But you must admit it's a hot thread! Perhaps we  should all wish  the OP good luck, and just say good bye!

He's laughing at us! LOL

Look at those cults etc.....

I get the overall impression with these "good-bye" threads that:-

a) the OP (ie the leaver) is angry/pissed-off with Naim or the Forum and wants to vent this anger somehow, and symbolically wave two fingers.

b) Many of the subsequent respondents are equally enthusiastic about waving two fingers in return.

Brilliant thread(s)
