Very generous Nigel! Shipping included, or local pickup only? ![]()
Actually there is a third type, which may or may not be in either of those categories: the best you can afford.
Unfortunately (for me) 272, XPS DR, 250 DR + appropriate speakers would not fit into that category.
It is incredible that so many are personally affected by that I express my attitude to Naim . Three times did my Cd5i into pieces and eventually had to be sent to England. My uncle CD5i 2 times and a trip to England. The CD5XS I had also been one walks the factory for repair. For about two years ago I went to my dealer . 20Naim of about 13 units had a bleeding display. My NATI XS had trouble it got " stuck" in volume scarce due to software problems. Is there anyone here in this forum, that can say Naim 's a good product . Compared to the price are we complete fool . From all the comments that have come , then most had closed their eyes to this.
I've just bought MORE Naim! Obviously a glutton for punishment - and I am still using A NAT 01 ....its been so unreliable that nothing has gone wrong with it! Will have to see if they made that one on China

Should have changed your dealer. Clearly he was selling you NAIMs that he broke.

Not to forget the "hum" problem. And yes it"s not wise to say anything negative on this forum about Naim. On the other hand Naim is the only gear which soundlike gives me and my ex wifes " a chilling experience". And in the end thats al what matters.

There shouldn't be a hum after the first few minutes of power on.
There shouldn"t be but there is in some cases.

There are two aspects to your problem.
a) you have had a series of bad experiences with your Naim equipment
b) you made a forceful statement about selling up and moving to Rega
The responses to (a) have shown that not everyone has had such a bad experience and hence you have been exceptionally unlucky with the equipment supplied or with your dealer.
The responses to (b) are typical of impersonal electronic contact. People are unsympathetic to those whose postings show signs of a tantrum.
Normally I would recommend taking your problem list to your dealer and asking him to contact Naim for a resolution. If he fails to help, then contact Naim direct.
However, given the tone of your posts and the extent of your unresolved problems, I think you are making a wise choice in moving forward into new territory.
I suppose the big question is: is your Rega dealer a different dealer?
Yes thanks
New dealer, new brand, sounds like a good move.

Quite right!

Hallo to Rega
I'm afraid my two word response to threads like this, irrespective of the forum, is.....
So what?
Quite right Don - Especially for the New Year

It sounds like you have had problems with your dealer, your kit and now the forum, is there a pattern forming here? I had problems with a UnitiLite once but the dealer response was excellent.
Having grown up into adulthood driving cars made by British Leyland I have a built-in response to consumer difficulties: "That's what the weekend was invented for!"
To the OP:
I have owned, in the whole of my audio life so far, two CD3.5, two CD5, one CD5i, one DVD5, one CD5x, one CD5x converted by Naim to pure mechanism, three CDX2 and one CDS3, which sums up to twelve Naim sources. None was bought new, none got broken for inherent vices, one got broken in transit and Naim fixed it for free. So either you have been unlucky beyond statistical reasonability, or you have been fooled by some dealer, or you are making this up. I always smell something strange in threads like this.. Nothing personal, you may have good reasons for posting so, but I smell foul nonetheless. Sorry.
(Too many replies, in my opinion, to this thread. Once I visited Naim, and while chatting with a respectable member of the staff who toured me and my wife inside the factory, I mentioned a recent thread on this forum by a guy who said he had found a vagrant screw inside a Naim Nait5i; he answered that they always are very careful in evaluating and answering this type of posts, because there are cases of plain sabotage. Since then, I can't help noticing when staff members or moderators reply, and when they don't.)
Just to be clear, the staff member meant that such threads were a form of sabotage, not that someone inside the factory has intentionally put a loose screw inside...
This is just my post, and I expect to be belied or corrected or moderated, no problem. It's only that I don't understand when useless, provocative threads are replied to a large number of times - which includes my two posts too, of course.
Just a little story.
I bought ( my first naim) a cd player cd5x some years ago at an authorized dealer. But from the start it just sounded not right. It was some kind of floating and very warm sound which became wors. My ex wife bought herself a olive green set and it sounded perfect.(btw it stil does)
I thought it was the amplifier so I traded that one in for a Nait XS. A tad better but not much. Turns out the dealer sold me a five years old heavilly F. Word -- ahum) cd player as being factory new. So much for dealers. On the other hand Naim can"t help dealers being unreliable and shady. At the time I was disapointed but it didn"t took me away from excellent sounding Naim gear.
The strange case of the haunted stereo!

The OP clearly isn't based in UK, and it may be that he has no choice of dealership, and it may also be that the dealer is not good, though that is unclear and it would be wrong to jump to that conclusion - however the possibility that a poor dealership somewhere not appropriately solving problems is something Naim might be inclined to investigate, as that can be worse than having no dealership and purely dealing by mail order.
For myself, I had an ND5XS, and found it worked as expected, was easy to use, gave me the SQ I was after in replacing a CD player, and on the one occasion I needed support Naim'sresponse was second to none. I enjoyed it - or more particularly I enjoyed listening through it - but eventually I sold it on because I found I could achieve better SQ for less investment. As that was my one and only Naim item, I, too, have to admit that I have sold all my Naim, and am now naimless! However, Naim has earned my respect, and I certainly do not rule out some time in the future owning Naim kit again, and intend to keep in touch with their developments. In the meantime these fora are interesting, informative and entertaining - and Naim's very tolerance of some of the content adds to their strength and value.
It is inevitable that someone is going to have a bad experience with Naim equipment and/or the supplying dealer. It's human nature to want to express displeasure; particularly if stress/aggravation and a substantial financial loss has been incurred.
You cannot please all of the people, all of the time.
I've bought innumerable items of new and used Naim equipment since 1982, and bar the occasional mis-fire, been very happy with it; the company, and the dealer network. (Almost) 34 years of musical delight ain't too shabby.
This forum is a tribute to Naim. Some moderation is of course necessary, but how many manufacturers would allow a thread to run; expressing dissatisfaction with their very expensive flagship amplifier?
John.

Hallo to Rega
Congrats. Enjoy the Rega. Don't come back to this forum - (unless you want to be tempted to come back to Naim).
