Marek Janowski - Bruckner, recommended ?
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 27 December 2015
Any opinion about this cycle, it's discounted on Qobuz now ....?
Since reading your post yesterday I have been sampling a few movements on Spotify, but not enough yet to have a definite opinion on the merits of this set.
As with most collections like this you can probably get better performances of individual symphonies elsewhere; however at the bargain price of £48.74 for 10 sacd’s with the Mass No. 3 as an added bonus, I am very tempted.
The set had mostly good reviews when the individual symphonies were issued, the reviews often comment on the splendid sound of the recordings.
I have got some of the Janowski Wagner cycle on Penatone and these are very well recorded.
Thanks guys, the feedback came in too late, I just bought the stuff. And I do have Karajan and some other versions. So far I have seen that a bit less optimal version sometimes outshines through the fact that it's better recorded and in high res.
i will wait a bit longer the next time - thanks for the feedback.
Dear Bert,
I removed my post from above, because it was perhaps not positive enough! Janowski’s recording tend the be of technically the very first quality, and in that respect will trounce any of the older Brucknerian master conductors’ efforts.
Perhaps you will post your thoughts on how Janowski compares with Karajan in a while?
Best wishes from George
