DR: Tread with caution? - Anyone try Super 20s with nap300DR?

Anyone try running Kudos Super 20s with the Nap300DR?

Tried a 250DR instead of a Nap 300 with my Kudos Super 20s. The experiment didn't last very long. The Kudos Super 20s were designed with the Nap300 and were 'tuned' with the Nap300 - so not surpised that the 300 sound better than the 250DR. More musical at least. I can see how the 250DR are equally or more resolving, specifically at the top end. There's more space.. all the usual hifi stuff.

However, the 250DR threw things off enough, that I suspect upgrading to 300DRs would not be a great idea...

Unless someone can tell me otherwise?

From my own albeit brief listen to a 250DR, I prefer my good old 250 without the DR. Yes, the DR bought about more "hi-fi" but, to my ears, it lacked the dynamics and enjoyment of the non DR version.

Yes i use 300dr and S20s with great results. However went from 250 non-dr to 300dr and only have a weeks 300 non dr homedemo experience. To my ears, firstly any 300 and s20 is a fantastic combo. Secondly, 300dr sounds better than non-dr, more of musicality, not just hifi stuff.

why dont u get a homedemo?

How old was the 250 DR? This amp takes months to run in. It can sound from "this is amazing" to "is this the same amp?" during that period. Unless the 250 DR you heard was properly run in, I would not jump to any conclusions, and another forum member has heard the 250.2, 250 DR, 300 and 300 DR and thought the 250 DR was the standout (in terms of performance/price).

When the 300 (non DR) was introduced around early 2000, there were similar comments when compared to 135, but I think people realized they were comparing brand new 300s to properly run in 135, not a fair comparison.

In what way did the 250DR throw things off?

Mango - I'm not a great enthusiast for the S20 with the caveat that I haven't tried them in my room on my system.  But I have gone from the 200>250>250dr and the latter is I can assure on the contrary to being more "hi-fi" is faster, more dynamic and yes more "musical".  And yes the 300 dr is even more so.   It's all good!!!

The way i see it..... trust your ears. You only have to please yourself, not the Forum, or Naim. The old 300 was a beautiful music maker, no less so now that something else is out.

As I am a big fan of the Kudos Super 20s I am slightly nervous that a DR upgrade to my NAP300 might upset the gorgeous synergy with the Super 20s - however I definitely intend to find out
