Linn LP12 RCA to NAIM DIN Help Required

Posted by: benisjamin on 30 December 2015

Hi all,
Its taken me a year to get my hif-fi setup, and I apologise in advance for my lack of knowledge with regards to this question, but what device or adaptor am I supposed to use, to connect the 2 RCA outputs from my Linn LP12 to my NAIM 102 Pre-amp?, as there are only DIN connections to the rear of the NAIM pre-amp.
I was so looking to forward to having this setup ready for the new year too :-[

Any help greatly appreciated as always.

Setup is as follows:
Linn LP12 with Lingo MK1
Naim NAP 140 (Power Amp)
Naim NAP 102 (Pre Amp)
Naim NAPSC (Power Supply)

You want your dealer to replace the RCA phonos on the Linn Tonearm cable with a pair of 50ohm BNCs.  Failing that, you could use BNC to RCA Phono adaptors (50ohm) but you will lose the performance benefits of the BNCs.  You will at least have sound and it's an OK temporary step to tide you over until the plugs are changed.

I assume your NAC102 is fitted with phono cards appropriate to your chosen cartridge?

Hi Richard,

Stupidly I have just found a small plastic bag buried in the packaging of the amp, containing 2 connectors and a small NAIM 5 pin connector. The 2 connectors, after looking online, are BNC adaptors as you described earlier, but I'm unsure what the NAIM 5 pin plug is for, see image below..

I have a Linn Adikt Cartridge currently on the EKOS arm ( but I also have a Linn K9) too, after taking a couple of pictures for you, how does one identify if the phono card is for an MM or MC cartridge ?

p.s Thanks for replying back to me in the first instance so promptly, if only Harbeth customer support could compare!

Can I say that the circuit inside this pre- is much more neat and beautiful of my 272? Can I say that? Oh, dear, the old school... Have great time benisjamin!

For further information, the chap whom I bought the whole setup off in November 2014, was using a Rega P25 With RB600 Arm and Elys Cartridge

For both the Adikt and the K9 you want NA522 boards.  It looks like you have exactly what you need there.  I can't read the other side of the boards, but unless I'm very much mistaken, they do look like 522s.

The little black 5 pin link plug must be fitted to the NAC102 if you aren't powering it from a Hicap (i.e. powering directly from a suitable power amp).

As you are using a NAP140 then you must fit the link plug to the Upgrade socket of the NAC102.  Make sure you have the NAPSC fitted to the NAC102 as this will power the controls and switching circuits.  Connect the NAP140 to the NAC102 via the supplied SNAIC4 lead.

Remember only ever connect or disconnect SNAICS etc.. with all items powered OFF.

Thank you kindly for all the helpful information Richard, it's greatly appreciated!

One last question, you mention "Upgrade socket", is this the 'Output 5 Din' located directly next to where the NAPSC fits into ?

See images below for clarity:
