No Power to Pre-amp

Posted by: Zook on 31 December 2015

Recently acquired a NAP140/NAC62 combo. Initially hooked up to use them with an LP12, but sound was awful due to the wrong Phono Boards fitted. Since fitted the correct ones, went to hook it all up today and all of a sudden there is no power to the preamp. ie - the green light is not lit, and no sound. Unhooked everything and just plugged the two amps together, still no power. The 140 has its light on.

Everything is plugged in as it should be, SNAIC 4, I have two of these, both checked, same issue, link plugs, again two tried. Any ideas?

I would remove the newly fitted phono boards and try powering the 62 without boards

When was the NAP140 last serviced? If not within the last 10 years then all bets are off.  It may well be that the pre-amp supply has failed.  A long period of many years dormancy will only exacerbate matters. Do you have a multi-meter? You could check whether there is 24V DC on the hot pin of the DIN4.  If not, it's off to Naim for a long overdue service.

Cheers for reply, already tried this bud, no joy. These came from my father's identical system, he's had no issues with his.

Just measured across the 4Din +ve and -ve terminals, reading 23.96V, gonna hook in the 62 and follow the circuit from there.

Power going through the SNAIC4 up to circuit board, and on to the link plug, not sure where to go from here.

As you have stated power is getting up to the link plug, a long shot but have you checked the link plug for any breaks

Appears fine, got two tried them both, same issue. Going to do a continuity check across all components in 62. See if any of the capacitors or resistors have blown.
