Poor Album Artwork with Mu-So App

Posted by: Simon Clifford-Smith on 04 January 2016

I have recently bought a Naim Mu-So and I am exceedingly pleased with the audio quality, however, I think there must be a problem with the App, as the Album Artwork is either missing (Grey Folders) or very pixelated when streaming from my WD My Cloud 2TB network drive. The Album artwork is either "JPEG" or "PNG" and is in the same folder as the music files. Any help  or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I have sorted out the problem by using "Asset UPnP" If only this info was available in the Naim Documentation for Mu-So.

For quality streaming network cables are advised.

Album artwork should really only be in JPG format.

Clear the cashe in your NAIM app, get it to rescan and should be ok.

I'm pretty sure the limiting factor with these types of issues is the UPNP server and has nothing to do with your audio hardware or the Naim app. Some servers manage / display artwork better than others. It could also just be a setting within your UPNP server that has to be managed.

I'm using Serviio (with mac os) and it displays artwork nicely... some others I've used... not so much.

indeed,

using a synology NAS > upnp > NAC272, I have a lot of artwork problems.

When I access the same synology NAS > JRiver on a Mac Pro > upnp NAC272, all artwork is fine...

Hi Simon, not sure what NAS you use but with my NAS there was a marked difference in the way album art is displayed on my NAIM streamer by playing with something akin to a "client type" setting on the UpnP server at the NAS level. I use suggest that you check the UpnP server configuration about this.

I don't have any issues with my Synology NAS  are you running the Synology Media Server, if so check the DMA Compatibility ->  device list options, I have mine set to default profile.

I create a 600x600 jpg from the embedded artwork using an applescript from :-

http://dougscripts.com/itunes/....php?sp=savealbumart

The UPnP server dishes out the artwork depending on what it thinks the device is, I had a Segate NAS and I had to force the device type to a "Linn Kinsky  Desktop" iirc.

Many thanks for all your help and suggestions. Since I have used "Asset UPnP" all my problems have been resolved.

Try putting Minimserver on your Synology. I have a Synology and a 272 and no album art pictures at all. Saying that, the Synology media server should work, but clearly something is not right. Minim will also transcode to WAV and cope with gapless, which the media server cannot manage.
