Something GREAT has happened!

I have a CD5XS, 172XS (for now), 282 + 2*HiCaps, 200 & 250.2 and JBL S4700 with nacA5 speaker cable. I haven't logged the hours on them but it would be 100 odd hours I guess. To be honest, I felt the sound was really good, but not great, and I felt a bit disappointed. I added vibration control under the components and speakers and then thought that maybe they all needed a bit more time to run in, so I have spent the last week with the whole system playing at about 80dB continually. HOLY GUACAMOLE!!! I am blown away by how awesome it now sounds, the whole system and speakers now seem to impart layers of depth and scale I thought was beyond possible. I checked with my wife, (who has a little Denon mini and Q Acoustic 2020i speakers) and she was also amazed. I finally get why so many people are fanatical about Naim. It was good before, but I thought I was not at the 252,552 levels so I wouldn't hear what so many of you describe. The whole system has woken up and crickey it's an awesome feeling. I heard a very obvious benefit when upgrading from the 172 as a pre to the 282, and now it has improved 20 fold. I use HiLines, and Chord Sig T/A and upgraded power cords and everything appears at it's best as well. The top end is crystal clear and smooth, the mid and bass are full and TIGHT! It is a second burst of excitement for me since opening the new boxes and it feels and sounds so good. I played Santana and Blondie this morning and it was magnificent. The ONLY trouble is, I'm a bit OCD I think and after tasting 8yo stuff I am scared to taste the 12yo 252 or Black Label 20yo 552 for fear of a second mortgage! Geez you Pommies make great stuff!

Congratulations. It is a lovely feeling when a system comes on-song. Enjoy.

Hi Steve

Great to read of another person who is enjoying the delights of a properly run-in Naim system.

The run-in period can be quite un-nerving for a few weeks - it tests our resolve - then it really comes good.  As an amusing aside, a few years ago I bought a new 555PS for the CD player, then nearly sent it back after a week because the music just wasn't flowing.  The dealer recommended to give it another 2 weeks.  That was quite a transformational 2 weeks!  I still have that power supply to this day...

Best regards, FT
