Putting Kit in Another Room - How to Control?

Posted by: Richy on 06 January 2016

Does anyone have their Naim kit / Fraim in a separate room to their speakers, and if so, how do you control them via remote?

I am tempted to move my kit to the dining room whilst keeping the speakers in the lounge.  That way, they can be out of the way and the speaker cables will simply have to go through the wall into the lounge.  Is there a sensor of some sort that I can then get and place near the speakers to control volume etc?  OR, is this idea simply not possible?

Cheers

Get yourself a Harmony Ultimate remote. This works on wireless, not IR, and uses a separate IR transmitter which you can place within view of your units. It also happens to be the best programmable remote, ever.

If you do a google search for 'remote control extenders' you should get a pretty good idea of what is out there for your needs or the Harmony above sounds a good idea also..

I have the exact setup you describe but there is a large archway between my LR and DR. The speakers sit either side of the arch in the LR and the kit is tucked in the near corner of the DR. I don't use the remote from the listening sofa, but if streaming I can make adjustments with my control app (laptop, iPhone, etc.) to my Squeezebox and for LP playback I just have to make sure I have the volume right before I plant myself on the sofa. Although getting up for the occasional adjustment has really not been a problem.

If you have Naim Streamers presumably this can all be taken care of in the App.

I have my system in the hall adjacent to my listening room.  I have a 52, NDS and an active 600 series speakers.  I just pop next door to control the volume, but I could use IR as I do run the TV and media box, which my dealer provided.  My 'Qutes and NAS are under the stairs in the same hall and they are controlled by the App.

You don't say what your system is, but if it includes a Naim streamer, what you want to do is simple. The Naim app controls it over your network, so as long as you have WiFi in the listening room, it will see your streamer and control it regardless of its location.

I have my system in another room and very successfully use a Marmitek Powermid .  These are available via my Naim dealer or tinterweb thingy.

As a bonus, my system sounds better with the electronics in another room.  Less acoustic feedback possibly?

Mine in another room too. Has big advantage of moving the TT well away from the speakers. Controlled via app for the NDS.
