New shape of things to come

Posted by: p. on 06 January 2016

The very top end (statement) and the very bottom end (muso range) already show the new product design language naim is developing: white and silver is the new green and black.

Curious the see streamers and amps coming in a new body housing, maybe still in 2016?

I think you have a point there, allthough the DR models are brand new...Difficult to make such a transition in design without upsetting loyal (and/or recent) customers.

But on the other hand, the current design appeared in the early 2000's if I ´m not mistaken. Quite a long life for high tech product IMO.

Only a matter of time before the rest of the range gets new cases. Just a question of timing i guess.

The current classic cases still look great. Surely nobody wants to insert a single new silver box in their rack, sticking out like a sore thumb among the black cases.

I think the 'lifestyle' type products should look different but don't think everything else should fall into line! Still love the timeless look of the Triptych design

This is probably what CB-owners thought too, back in the days

I just wonder if the new design will be bottom-up replacing XS and then Classic and then 500 - or top-down.

A bit less polished would look quite neat. Otherwise they would like to much like Burmeister boxes...

I was thinking that but that happened to during the Olive to Black transition too.

For those who have been around with Naim since those days, how does it feel ?

Whoever it was at Naim who sanctioned that must wake in a cold sweat every night.

Truly hideous!

Things move on the but the current design is really a winner and does not feel dated and I would be sad to see it change for something in line with Muso/Statement. Over the years, I've come to really associate Naim with black and green. Something about the Muso volume control is a bit 90's Meridian-esque.

Maybe I'd feel better if the glowing seperater on Statement towers and the muso volume knob glowed classic Naim green

Personally I'd prefer them to be a rich, plush purple... Black is not bad as an aalternative - at least it's pretty anonymous. Never been over keen on shiny silver. But what the heck, if it sounds good, that's what matters, and I'm not convinced that stacks of electronic boxes have any high aesthetic appeal other than for showing what you have. The racks can always be put in cupboards if box colours clash, and paint the cupboard any colour you like, or even paint it to look like a populated rack...

You'd like my setup then. I think the mixture in the anodiser tank was off. Nearly all my Naim gear except the HiCap is very purple indeed.

ok I believe by now, someone with good CGI skills should be able to generate how a future classic range will look ! :-)

I just downloaded this from the Naim R&D server. Top secret designs for their new Multi-room system.

An early effort by Naim was the Party Pack. A silver clip on for the middle section of the facia. Not as hideous as above, but it didn't seem to last long.

Oh yes! Now i remember! Thank you!

As Bert Schurink wrote i could take a brushed silver aluminium version. But the one above looks like a hair dryer or a toaster......

Hmmm...  the padded cell may well beckon for this thread.  There it can be reunited with the "lost shipment" of Party Packs buried in the Naim HQ secret garden.

Posted on: 07 January 2016 by Gianluigi Mazzorana

"Lost shipment" means somebody did bury it?

On my own, with no direction home, like a complete unknown...  like a rolling stone
