Firmware Version 4.4 Update
Posted by: Karen on 06 January 2016
Did anyone experience problems after performing the Factory Reset upon completion of the update. The Factory Reset is required to update the firmware. How important is the firmware update? After the Factory Reset, what had to be set up again? I have done updates previously and those went fine. However, I have never done a firmware update or Factory Reset.
No...went smoothly. No problems.
You can update the software and not do the factory reset. If you do it you lose your presets and any changed settings. I've done lots of updates, being part of the beta group (over 20 by now) and have never bothered with a factory reset. The update will turn multiroom on, but you can just turn it off again if you don't need it.
I've found that the factory reset sometimes happens automatically at the end of a firmware update, and sometimes it doesn't. It's a bit of a nuisance as you might lose your iRadio presets, and a few other settings you've changed to suit you, but nothing you can't restore easily enough.
One issue I've had on occasion is the factory reset setting the volume to an extremely high level, and starting play automatically when the update finishes, even though I've hit the stop button before updating. Not good at all.
Thinking about it. l lost my internet connection after the factory reset. No problem but you may have to write down your ip adres Just in case. what really struck me was the sound getting much better after the update.
Thanks for all of the hints and information. The update went fine. Towards the end of the update, the window said that the firmware download was in progress. Upon completion, the window said that a Factory Reset was in progress. Then "Successful". All of my iRadio presets were intact. I could find no changes in Settings. And I agree, the sound is better.
Hi Karen -
Glad things went smoothly, yay!
The confusion is that the "streamer factory reset" is just to put the newly upgraded streamer code on a known start configuration. It is not a full device factory reset (ie renamed inputs, disabled inputs, radio presets are all preserved) as you might do from the handset remote. However, if anything goes slightly sideways during the update, even if it recovers and completes by itself (most common cause seems to be not establishing IP address to do that segment of the process on the first try) -- THEN you do get a full-on device reset to factory defaults (including lost radio presets etc). This is known and correct behaviour and was briefly explained on the beta program (because we were all experiencing slightly different things, and "reset" didn't mean the same thing to all the testers).

I purchased my U.L. last december with serial number 395... assembled in 2015 I have the latest firmware suppose. So why in my mask i find 4.4.00 and in official web site Naim (Italian) on the update page the last firmware relased for my product is 3.22 relased on novembre 2013 ?
Damn, maybe Naim England support should urge Naim Italy to refresh the page.
I noticed that select other languages (except English) are all outdated firmware, not just Italians to be back

4.4.00 is the latest version of the firmware and that is the one you should use. The web page is very out of date because there have been several 4.x firmware releases in the last year.

By the way, I have reported the issue to Naim.

Hi Alan,
Thank you very much. Your reply is quite helpful and explains the meaning of "reset" in plain and simple terms.
