Naim App Crashed

Posted by: Mr Paws on 08 January 2016

Hi to all,

This afternoon I was listening to some music via my Nas when suddenly the music just disappeared. I got my iPad to have a look but no problem except all my playlists are gone ! Argh what a pain but I checked the album track i was playing at the time to see if there was any issue there but it played fine. I've spice reinstalled the app and all is good so far.

I was wondering if it would be possible for Naim to have a facility to save ones playlists on the app ?

Any thoughts on this ?

Are these playlists that you created on the Naim app, or on your NAS?

Hi there thanks for your reply.

The playlists were made on the Naim App.

Cheers..

My two (not very often used) playlists ARE stored on the Naim app. I thought they had to be saved there, my NAS does not 'save' anything, so the facility must exist. Are you sure you did not accidentally delete them??

I've had problems before with Naim app playlists becoming corrupted so they won't play any more. I'm not aware of any way to back them up - this does seem like a bit of an oversight. If you have more than one iOS or Android device, you can manually save a playlist from one device on another, which might serve as a half-arsed backup in the absence of any better solution.

What I now do, which I think is a much better solution, is to create and manage playlists on my NAS/UPnP server. These can be viewed and played on the UPnP input on the Naim app, but are not stored on it. They are also backed up as part of the NAS backup. My NAS is actually a Naim Unitiserve, but I'm fairly sure other NAS's allow you to do this.

No I definitely didn't delete them.

As I pointed out earlier I was listening to an album not on any playlist when the music just went off so its confusing.

My Naim Uniti 2 is all wired rock solid it seemed but maybe it's the Powerlines I'm using ? I haven't got around to getting a solid cable direct to my router.

Recommendation is to create playlists on the UPnP server.

In that case, do you actually mean 'playlist' or are you talking about what the Naim app calls the 'play queue'?

If so, I agree that it can be frustrating to accidentally delete the whole queue buy hitting the wrong button somewhere.

Yes I think we need to know exactly what you did, rather than assuming this is a playlist 'feature'...

Ok, As I point out earlier it's the playlist feature on the Naim App. I had a few playlists which I compiled on the app before Christmas so I could play music whilst entertaining family and friends. My gripe I suppose is that the app does crash now and again playlists are lost so maybe Naim could help put here by coming up with an update which doesn't make ones playlists disappear ? I'm not talking about play queues at at all here. I was simply listening to music when the music stopped and my playlists were gone too so (as I've done before) deleted the app and reinstalled it. I didn't at anytime hit the wrong button by mistake because I was listening to the music and didn't have any device in my hand at all hence my post on here now to see if anyone has had the same problem. I know from reading on here that some has had some sort of issue with the Naim App so I'm just sharing my experiences on here to see if there is a solution.

OK, playlists, not queues. I've never seen them vanish before, mine have just been corrupted so they're visible but can't be played. I've put in a feature request to Naim to ask if app data can be backed up as I'm not aware of any way of doing this now.

I'd still suggest looking at your UPnP server to see if playlists can be set up on there as a more reliable alternative.

Playlist created on the Naim App on an iOS device can be saved or added via iTunes.  Connect device to iTunes and select the device then look at apps and select Naim. Playlists are displayed on the right where you can select and save etc.

Playlist created can be saved to file via iTunes to be restored later if required, or transferred between devices.
