Naim Unitilite
Posted by: Goranp on 09 January 2016
Hi for everyone .
I have Naim Nait5 and CD5x ,
Can I connect Unitilite with Nait5 ?
I don't want sell my CD5x ,I want use only USB and internet radio on Unitilite
The Unitilite has a preamp output (4 pin DIN) so it looks like you should be able to connect to the Nait 5 via this output.
I'm presuming you have the unitilite already and are not going to purcjase one to give you a USB option and internet radio, which would be a strnage use of resources?

I was wondering the same. Seems a lot of kit (Unitilite I mean) just for those options.
p.s. If you want to keep the CDX5 why not sell the Nait and buy a Superuniti.
I don't have Unitilite .
What you think about Nac N172 or ND5xs,but Unitilite is cheaper than this
On second thoughts maybe the UnitiQute2; keep the CDX5 and sell the Nait5 if cost is a consideration.
I would consider a Unitiqute...or, if you want to keep things simple, sell the lot and get a Uniti.
The ND5 is well worth the extra cash, it features a 40-bit DSP not present in the other options. It also has the added benefit of being a proper analogue source device, connected with a 5-pin din vs using RCA cables. I have a Unitilite and have recently been listening to an ND5 with a NaitXS2 and wish I'd started with this combo!
In this position, I'd sell the Nait and get a 172/155 or a SuperUniti, and connect the CD5x to it.
Hi Goranp, been there, done that ![]()
The Nait 5 is a very good amp, and drives easy speakers beautifully(fond memories of Rega rs1), your cd player is also nice and a flatcap would still be a nice addition to power both.
But first you should tell us what your speakers are for a sound advice and what improvements,if any, you wish to get apart of the internet radio of utilities.
In your shoes, I 'd never get an unitilite, uniti (you could regret if you did) or even Superuniti if streaming isn't your priority and/or you've not the cash either, but keep the player if you use it.
In my shoes, I ditched both the nait5 ,thought useless to service it, and cd player to get a Unitiqute and since then, I assure you, this is the unit is staying with me.
It sounded nice on its own, fine as pre/dac , eventually helping me now to build up a much better system which will require a lot of more money in a source(streamer/dac) to better it.
Each step, greater satisfaction, guaranteed.
A chameleon really, my advice would be to trace the better one you can and replace the nait5 especially if not serviced.
I have Kef IQ 5 speakers,naca 5 cable and Naim Fraim .
I like listen Naim radio and other internet radio station on my notebook and have lot music on hard disc

Nait 5 is not serviced
you know what? my first speakers were key q50 ![]()
I doubt the Qute won't be able to drive them fine.
BTW a friend of mine is using a squeezebox , psu and supernait dac to great effect.
Pretty sure the UQ alone would be a great addition.
2 main options I see then as mentioned above:
1. ND5 added to current system
2. Sell Nait and get superuniti
if these options are too expensive at the moment get a s/h Squeezebox Touch and this will give you all the functionality of the ND5.

I think that I buy ND5 or N172 in future
@Goranp
If you're choosing between those two then there really is only one choice: the ND5. I know the 172 is a little cheaper but there's a reason for that (e.g. non 40-bit DSP, no upgradeability with power supplies, no DSD playback etc). If it comes down to it, do the listen - I would expect the ND5 to be the clear winner there too...
