Split screen on ipad - naim apps

Posted by: murray harden on 09 January 2016

My ipad has had it so considering an ipad pro as a replacement. Does anyone know whether  the naim app and nserv support the split screen function available with ios9. I quite like the idea of being able to have both apps open at the same time largely because nserv shows the last 100 albums played whilst the naim app only gives you 20. By the way if anyone is beta testing or providing feedback on the apps a welcome addition to the naim app would be to increase the number of albums shown in last played ,recently added etc from the present 20

Murray, I see a lot more than 20 albums in the "new albums" playlist folder using Asset UPnP so I suspect that the issue you have is with the UPnP server you are using rather than with the naim app. It might be worth looking at your UPnP server software's settings to see if you can configure these to show more new albums in this view.

I hadn't considered the split screen idea - my wife has just been given a shiny new iPad for work, so I might pinch it and see if it works, as I often flit between the two apps as well, not least because I find N-Serve better for playlist creation.

As it happens, I did submit a feature request to Naim for more than 20 albums in the Newest and Last Played lists a few days ago. No response yet, but maybe they'll be able to sort something out here - this isn't the first time it's been discussed.

Oops. Just realised that you are using a Naim server (Unitiserve?) rather than a NAS and UPnP server software.

The number of albums in the newest list is nothing whatsoever to do with the app. It is wholly down to the upnp server. I asked Naim to increase the number shown by the UnitiServe well over two years ago, and it's somewhere in the 'maybe' list.

I now use the excellent Minimserver, which doesn't have a newest list at all. Simon, who is Mr Minim has it on his to do list. As others have said, you get far more than 20 if you use Asset, but it doesn't run on Synology. Hopefully one day Minim will have this useful feature - I find it's all to easy to forget what I've bought!

I've just had a play with the split screen thing, but the Naim apps don't support it. Not that surprising, I guess, as it hasn't been around for that long. It works on Apple apps, but not on most 3rd party apps.
