Target wall shelf or Fraim for LP12

Posted by: overprint on 14 January 2016

Moved house over Christmas and now have the opportunity to either put up my Target turntable wall shelf or go for a Fraim /Lite combination. Can anyone offer advice / experience of the better support option for my LP12?

I can't directly compare the two and don't want to start drilling wall holes if I end up buying Fraims. LP12 is quite high spec but without a Trampolin btw

Many Thanks

Also to add, if anyone can post a list / photo's of the various options available that would be good, as I am considering the same thing, thanks guys

I've tried my LP12 on fraim and on a VulKan wall shelf, and IME the VulKan won out quite convincingly with an improved SQ.

Plus added bonuses of gaining a more agreeable height for turntable use, and freeing up a prime top fraim shelf for a box that will better appreciate the location, such as a Radikal or the pre-amp : )

before I had an Audiotech wall shelf (similar to Vulkan) I had something that looked similar but had very 'weedy' spikes. It was hopeless. Not sure what your current wall shelf is like. A good one can make a big difference.

I was able to purchase a quadraspire wall shelf for my lp12. It was at a very good price. Made a tremendous difference, not just sq,but before I was unable to even get close to the tt without the arm bouncing. It had been on a quadraspire rack on a wood (carpeted) floor. Would definitely consider as an option,if you did not already have the target stand

Overprint,

If you have a solid floor then Fraim is excellent but if you have a suspended floor buy a Vulkan, it's based on the Audiotech and is the best wall shelf on the market. It's good value too.

+1. I now have my Superline on the top of the rack and got it further away from the power supplies. The Vulkan works well and the vinyl replay really improved.

Wall construction is also a consideration. A wall shelf might not be too good on a flimsy stud wall.

Had my LP12 on top of my fraimlite and did not like it at all... Sound turned dull, even with the fraimlite standing on solid floor. Setting the LP12 on a Decent Audio wallshelf improved everything. They have a double-wallshelf, where you can put the lingo beneath the TT. Would definitely recommend wallshelf!

Put the LP12 on the wall at comfortable height. If it is a flimsy wall, spend the time to reinforce it.  The result is worth the effort . The Vulkan is a great shelf.
