dropouts when playing from internal hd on my ns01

Over the last month I have experienced something worrying. When i play a track from the internal hard disk in my 4 and a half year old ns01, there are sometimes a dropout where the music stops. It will start again maybe 10 seconds later. If I then play the same track nothing will happen. One worrying idea is that the main hd in the unit is about to give up. When my hd in my nas did the same I could check that the number of errors detected by the Nas O/S suddenly was much higher than usual. On the ns01 we have no way of getting this information about the disk. I know this is a support issue, but have any other hd server owners here experiened the same?

Sounds more like a network/buffering issue. Impossible to guess though.  I take it the NS01 can not be accessed by the Desktop Client?

But how can playing from the internal disk through spdif to ndac, be a network Issue? And no  problem with the DTC losing connection. I have a solid network, and no problems when playing from my nas. The nice thing with the hard disk servers apart from the backup faacility is that you can play even when the network is down. I have a switch  connected to my nas, and the ns01, so even if I had network issues this should not be a problem.

Now that you say it, if a NAS is not involved then I guess its a red herring.

My mistake. Sorry.

Hi Claus,

Never had this issue. Have you got the files backed up outside of the NS01?

Yes one internal disk, and my nas, and 2 currently not updated external backups.

Have you connected using the Desktop Client? I seem to remember that you can access some system logs using it?

My personal suspicion when I start getting anomalous behaviour would be the HDDs.

If you drop Phil an email he can log onto your NS01 remotely and I would expect that he can see other system logs.

Good luck.
