Keeping NAIM units switched on all the time

Posted by: fernar on 18 January 2016

I am new to NAIM so looking for advice....

I am told that NAIM systems need to be kept switched on all the time...

In that case:

1) Do the logo light needs replacing after a number of years of being 'on' all the time?

2) The front panel display on the N272, NDX, etc.  - is it best to blank the display to prevent screen burn? (My N272 has the options of showing the time when as a 'background' - is having this switched on a good idea with regards to screen burn?)

Yes, they should be left on all the time. The little logos will be absolutely fine - they last for years. I have a 272 and have it set so that the clock does not show - I've heard that leaving it on can adversely affect the display.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Naim, I'm sure you will enjoy using it as much as everyone else does. What have you bought - maybe put it in your profile.

Hi,  welcome the Krazy World of Naim

The logo lights are LED & have a life of many years,  probably never need replacing while you are the owner

The screen however is another matter & whilst your 272 might be able to show all the time,  I would not do that,  I read sometime back of a failed display & someone from Naim said it has a limited life.  So unless someone from Naim comes on this thread & says the 272 clock is good for 24/7/365,  I would have it go off.  My NDX (no clock) is set to 2 minutes.

Thankyou both for the advise... I have set the display to have a time-out of 30 sec.... more than enough for me to see what is going on...

Hungryhalibut - I have updated my profile to show what I am running... I suspect that I am a bit unusual running a non-NAIL power amp.... (Bryston 4BSST2) - however I did have a extended home trial of the N272 beofer I ordered it and to my ears anyway the combination of N272 + Bryston works very well.

I believe that one of the design aims from Naim with products like the N272 to get new non-NAIM people into the 'Naim world'  - and clearly this has worked in relation to me.

Fernar - welcome good to hear that the 272 works well with your Bryston.

Naim stuff is just best left on all the time - except when away on holiday - although I do run all my stuff with the display dimmed.
