Arghhh! uniti can't 'see' xbmc content...help!

Posted by: Gman on 02 June 2011

Hi there, New to the Forum and Naim. I've got a Uniti and very happy with it.....apart from streaming iTunes via UPnP. I don't understand a lot of this I'm afraid, but here's the set-up: I have a MacBook Pro, running XMBC and it has all of my iTunes content. I have got my Uniti to 'see' the XBMC when I select the UPnP input....however when I navigate the Uniti to 'Albums' - it just comes up with . Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the Uniti UPnP to see the XBMC content? Many Thanks, Andy.

Oops, the post above should have said "however when I navigate the Uniti to'Albums' - it just says Empty.

what format are the music files?  ALAC, FLAC, WAV, MP3???

Posted on: 02 June 2011 by Gman

They're 'straight-out-of-the-box' MP3 (assuming that's what the 'MPEG-1 Layer3' means when I get info on the format).

I realize that this format is poor, but I will move into a better format when I get the hang of things.

Thanks,

This is a complete guess now...but are they actually tagged as albums in iTunes?

Or are they just individual tracks? The Uniti will only 'see' what is being routed to it.

It won't sort, add etc.

Have a look at your iTunes tagging and set-up.

If that doesn't help....then I'm sure someone else might have a better idea!

How do you have the itunes music in XBMC?

THere is a plugin which will pick up the itunes database, this will probably not work.

The other method is to scan the itunes music folder to XBMC so it can build its own library. This is a lot more long windwd but looks great once set up.

You need to add a new source in the music sectionm which is the physical music folder of itunes.

It will take a while to scan to file.

Once done turn to library mode and select an artist and refresh info for all artists. Again it will go and do its thing which could take a while.

Where it does not find album or artist images you can find them on google 300x300  delivers good images. Call album art folder.jpg a put in the album folder and artist images folder.jpg and put in the artist folder.

This will help towards developing a database that the upnp server can then deliver to the uniti.
