NDAC or NDX
Posted by: analogmusic on 03 June 2011
I have read a very interesting thread here that says the NDX has sound quality almost at NDAC level.
Has anyone tried SONOS or other network solution with NDAC and compared to NDX?
Well I've tried Squeezebox/server into DAC and into NDX (and NDX streamer alone of course) and preferred the NDX, but I've said this several times on this forum to a fairly hostile reception! Go and listen to your own preference would be my advice.
"What Hifi's" review of the NDX as a standalone component is pretty stellar in its praise and they have a point. I think you would need pretty fantastic source material to need an nDac as well.

Well, in my case, it's not a matter of a nDac as well, but it will be a nDac OR a NDX. I love my SONOS and I don't believe that the NDX is on par with it regarding the interface and the possibilities. I also love spotify so I will continue to use my Sonos for the moment. On the other hand, hi-res playback will only be possible through usb with the nDac if I'm correct. Then again, here in the Netherlands the price difference is € 1600,- in favour of the nDAC. I think I will have to audition them both, but I think it will be the nDAC

nDAC will play HiRes through all its SPDIF inputs.
The USB can only be used with a USB-stick but will also play Hi-Res from USB-stick.

Just to clarify, the USB, when used with iOS device is limited to 24/48 (not Naim's fault I dont think). Which is a bummer. If it accepted 24/96 I would use an old iPhone 3G as a UPNP renderer and ditch the hifi PC and digital cable.
