Sonate Music Server with lots of metadata

Posted by: Aleg on 03 June 2011

Has anybody with an NDX already checked out the new Sonata Music Server here?

I'm especially curious if their iPod software could be used as an alternative Control Point in combination with the NDX as renderer with display of full metadata?

They are focussed on Classical Music and collect 18 fields of metadata when ripping and could be interesting.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.  That is either a blatant theft of J River Media Center's Theater View, or they have licensed it from J River.  Either way, why not go straight to the source and get JRMC.  Best Media Database Player I have ever seen.

J River certainly offers a hell of a lot more (infinite?) than 19 fields of metadata.

They say "no computer required".... Well I guarantee you they ARE selling you some kind of computer in a fancy box.

Go to your local PC store and have them build you a very nicely spec'd machine for about $300.  The buy JRMC for $50.

It says "no computer skills required", it is only software not hardware.

I have the impression it is a bundling of J River Media Centre, BitRemote iPod/iPhone software and dBPoweramp Ripper and maybe also Asset UPnP-server.

I'm curious if they have added anything special except for the 4 metadata databases used in ripping.

I understand that JRiver supports unlimited elements of metadata, but this iSonata control point software may have been developed to fully use those 19 meta data elements in all aspects of a GUI.

My understanding and experience with those UPnP things is limited but not all control points might be able to use all metadata elements fully or in an easy to use or integrated way?

They also specifically mention support for Naim hi-end streaming players on their features page.
