Problem seeing downloads in n-serve or Naim app

Posted by: Clive B on 24 January 2016

I have just received my vinyl copy of Steven Wilson's new album 4 1/2. Unfortunately, one side is heavily scratched and the album will be going back (K-Scope's quality control has some serious issues IMO). But all is not lost as it came with a download code to download a FLAC copy, which I have done. It is now in the downloads folder on my PC. I have dragged and dropped it into the downloads folder on my NS01 and I can see it there on Windows Explorer. However, I cannot see it in n-serve or the Naim app. I am looking in the NS01/Downloads folder in n-serve and the 'all music' folder on the Naim app. I tried deleting it and reinstalling it without the cover art (.jpg file), but that has made no difference.

Is there a way I can force a synchronisation? Does anyone else have these issues? Because I use downloads so infrequently, I might have forgotten how to load files there, but I'm sure this is the same process as I've done before (with HCE for example).

Thanks for any advice you might have.

Regards,

Clive

I've sometimes found a delay before downloads are visible on my Unitiserve but they do show up sooner or later. Restarting it helps, not that you want to be doing that every time you add a new album.

Thanks, Chrissu, that's fixed it.

I conclude that switching it off and on again is the answer to all IT problems. I advised someone else to try that earlier on another problem with their streamer and it worked then too. In this case turning off the server fixed the problem.

It's a weird world!

+1 to switching on and off being the solution to many problems, once you've mastered that, you can get a get a career in an IT call centre

Rather than switching the server off, you can rescan the folder via the desktop client.

There may be a problem with the metadata of the FLAC files - encountered that problem before.

Do let me know if the problem persists - will try to guide you on how to overcome it.

That might be a good idea. I'm thinking of reorganising the file structure in the Downloads folder (using Windows Explorer) so that I don't end up with each album by the same artist having its own parent folder. Hopefully I'll be able to do that and rescan the Downloads folder so that the Naim app recognises it.
