PC (MS Surface) control options

Posted by: docbot on 26 January 2016

It there any way I can control my Unitiqute 2 with my MS Surface pro 3. I do have an iPad mini that I use for the purpose but I would much prefer to use the Surface.

Cheers

I do recall that there was a fairly basic app that could control basic functions but it was not anywhere near as capable as the Naim provided application. I'm sure someone will recall its name. I also tend to use MS products and ended up investing in an older iPad mini just to use as a remote control with a screen. (Very expensive remote.....)

There have been quite a few requests for Naim to produce something that is compatible with MS Windows but nothing forthcoming as yet. I was hoping that now that MS have brought out Win 10 and there is a drive to Universal Apps Naim would review the situation. I'd be more than happy to act as a tester (all variants). Not sure if Naim have done any market research to see if there is a demand for this product - perhaps they should.

The Roon app works wonderfully on the Surface Pro, even better than on the iPAD as you can change from portrait to landscape.

If Naim can add a Roon option it will answer your Surface cravings (albeit at a price)

Also a Windose user here. When I am streaming from the NAS I use Audionet RCP (Remote Control Point) most. Although the user interface is not great, it is rock solid and just ‘works’ all the time. I would prefer using ‘Asset Control’ (from dBpoweramp) but it is to buggy on my Windose 8.1 laptop. Pity they stopped developing that one. I don’t like the Naim app on my Android phone but the app is handy to switch inputs of the UQ and to change radio stations. So I now run the Naim Android app on my laptop. With an Android emulator called Andy. Works surprisingly well I must say. Oh aye, if I HAVE to use my phone to control the UQ I use Audionet again. This time the Android app ‘Audionet aMM’. Works a lot better for me then the Naim app.

If you are using a NAS like Synology or a Mac/PC based UpNP server you can run bubble UPnP on it and set your Naim streamer up as an OpenHome renderer you can use the Linn Kazoo app. I do this all the time when I want to control my 272 from my Mac.

I really wish Naim would develop a PC App. I work from home and am on my pc most of the time. It would be lovely to control my setup from it.

I have been playing this weekend and have a solution for streaming only. My setup consists of a mac mini running windows. I added bubblepnp server alongside my asset upnp server.

This effectively allows the Naim streamer to be an open home renderer which enables you to use linn kazoo app to select your streaming music. Works with tidal too. Not tried search but I tend not to use that.

Hope that helps.
