iTunes

Hi all
Just some advise please
iTunes library sitting on a Qnap210 NAS, on home NW
Mac can access the library in the normal way - all works - ok
Should an NDX be able to access the same files ( iTunes library - apple lossless ) >> on the same NW ?
Thanks
You'll need a UPnP server running on the NAS pointed at the iTunes library. That's how the NDX will access the files.
Hi thx for the quick reply
Have a US on the same NW
Thx
Can you point the US at the iTunes library location (on the NAS) and use the US to serve the library to the NDX ?
will try --- thx
Warning - US and iTunes may want to 'arrange' your library differently. Best if you switch the 'organise library' in the iTunes off.
I would do it other way round: organise my library from a UnitiServe point of view and then point my iTunes to it. But wiht a large library on a NAS it may become painfully slow....
Question; what is the idea behind this setup?
Hi thx
Experiment > ( No US )
To have iTunes on the Qnap on NW
Have the Mac on the NW with access to the library - for ripping / iPhone / iPod access to the library
Have the NDX on the NW with access to the same library
************
or keep them separate >
1- NDX/ US / Nas for back up ( Rip on US )
2- Mac as normal ( iTunes ) normal duties
Thanks
Personally I actually use the second option, with UnitiServe SSD ripping to my network connected NAS. NDX is then 'fed' by US. Easy an neat solution, which integrates my music library well. I also use 3 other Naim streamers on the same network, so having US is a real blessing.
I practically stopped using iTunes on my Macs
I got fed up with maintaining an iTunes library just for portable use in addition to my Unitiserve. I ditched my iPhone as a player, and bought a Sony Walkman, and all I do is drag & drop FLACs from the Unitiserve onto the Walkman. The Unitiserve transcodes the same FLACs on the fly to the streamer. Simple, and sound quality is miles better than an iPhone.
Thx for the feedback
