Read the instructions, you pillock!

When I bought my SL speaker leads, they were exdem and came without any instructions. After a while I found that the sound was a lot better once I had run the spare wire in a straight line away from the speakers and then back again, rather than looping it under the rack.

When I bought my SL din to XLR it was on approval, and came in a Jiffy bag, again with no instructions. Now, while this cable gave a significant improvement, it was sitting on the floor, as my rack is low. Knowing that the hiline likes to dangle, I suspected the same would apply to the decoupled din to XLR. So I ordered some longer legs for my rack - just sufficient to let the interconnect dangle free.

At the same time, earlier today, I picked up the proper packaging for the cable. When I opened it to prove to Hilary that it really was an empty box and not another expensive wire, I found the instructions.

It says two things: don't coil your speaker cables, and let your interconnects dangle, as well as a couple of other tips. Anyway, it's all plugged back in and the difference is surprising, the music seems to swing and flow more and the sound is even more engaging than before. It just sounds wonderful.

I sometimes point out to others that reading the manual is a good idea, and I've now had a taste of my own medicine, with great results. I'm jolly glad I did: it's great to get a free improvement of such significance, and all for the price of two sets of longer legs.

Happy days.

Hi HH, I've just had 2 naim power leads on demo..came in jiffy bag, no instructions....considering the nature of said leads.....thank goodness for naim forum.

By the way, did you consider the TQ ultra black legs?

I'm a little confused by your question, or perhaps I am missing a little joke....

I too have exdem SL speaker leads that came with all the proper packaging but no instructions. I assumed there weren't any instructions. So this is very helpful and thanks for the tips/advice HH.

Sorry HH, with all the discussion on the forum about Tq or SL, or Nac 5 cables, interconnects, which are best ect ect ect, it's purely my sense of humour with your naim frame legs, unfortunately not everyone gets my humour, particularly the mother in law..

No Fraim here!

Do you not use a naim fraim?

Posted on: 28 January 2016 by hungryhalibut

It's true. I know, it's shocking to think that there are alternatives!

Can I ask what stand you use? I don't use a naim fraim either, but I always assumed it was considered one of the best one can get.

In fairness to many SL owners I think many of the early cables were shipped without instructions.  Certainly my interconnect and speaker cable had no instructions with them. It wasn't until I later purchased a pair of Din to XLRs that I noticed an instruction leaflet inside which HH quotes from.

Maybe Naim should put a copy of the instructions on their website like they do with all other instruction manuals.

My SL cables did not have instructions packaged with them when purchased.

Nick

Yes, that would be sensible.
