which expensive hi- fi Rack ?

Posted by: wenger2015 on 28 January 2016

I have been spending some serious money just recently, Sopra2 's, Nap 250 Dr, Nac 282, hi cap, Tq ultra blacks...dedicated power supply....thanks to my son in law, qualified electrician and all round genius, that cost me nothing.

So I now contemplate another major expense, do I buy an expensive  Naim fraim or another really expensive Rack?

Do the merits of high-end hi fi require nothing but the best?

Are their more economical alternatives?

Would appreciate the thoughts from the forum and your recommendations?

Does anyone know the footprint size of the lsoblue compared with Quadraspire SVT ?  One issue with the fraim is the need for space, especially if you're requiring two racks?

The manufacturers all have exact sizes on their websites. Isoblue is quite wide, but not nearly as deep as Fraim. Quadraspire is the same depth as Isoblue, 395mm I think, and also not as wide as the others.

The SVT is 590 by 470. From memory, Isoblue is 635mm wide. As Chris says, full details are on the websites.

Hi Wenger, no I haven't had any chance to do that and in the situation I'm now in with "full loom Sarum" it's to much complicated to start over again.

Sometimes, but not often, the madness have to take a step back. For a short while at least...

Yes Jonas, your absolutely right, it's good to have a time out, so to speak

Question, has anyone actually auditioned a hi- fi rack? Is it even possible....bearing in mind it's best to audition in ones listening room?

Sadly, I have... I borrowed a four level Fraim from my dealer once, put it next to my existing rack and moved my CD player from one to the other. The Fraim was just slung together, but the huge improvement was enough to know it was worth buying one. Once I got my own and all the boxes were on it, it was of course even better.

Sadly....I would be keen to do the same.......appreciate your honesty

I would bet my right arm that HH changes to a Fraim within 6 months from now.

And I do like my right arm a lot...

If you'd like to bet me a Muso QB, you are on. I don't want your arm, being a vegetarian, but the QB would be just the job for the kitchen.

No way Man, wouldn't want to steal a Muso from you on top of what you also paid for the Fraim

Think I'm probably going to investigate the various options at the Bristol show next month, certainly pros and cons with most options.

I think the main requirement is to find the balance between allowing the rack to do its job, enhancing the performance, but also visually, be pleasing on the eye, without the need to take out a 2nd mortgage in order to pay for it....in which case I think the still points is probably a non starter at 7k...

I wouldn't hold out for anything special at the Bristol show ..other than what has been already said it'll be mainly Atacama or Target.

Posted on: 30 January 2016 by wenger2015

Is that what the main exhibitors use, or is that probably the two main rack companies that will be present ?

It looks like it's always had a heavy thing with What HiFi" magazine, which likes to use these type of products - for young starters or interested listeners on a tight budget who want the best value for money.      Probably will be rooms with high end stuff on Still points ,Fraim and others mentioned and maybe something new but will probably be just as expensive.

I read somewhere once that the best support for a hifi component was upon a pile of newspapers. A years worth of Guardian laid out in neat piles and the magazines stacked to support the hicap should do it.

A pile of Guardian on the left and a pile of Mail on the right and you'll have a perfectly  balanced system!

This is what I was looking for, too, but could not find. So now a carpenter is busy building a custom made rack - hope it will not only look nice but also sound better than the Ikea Lack I currently use

Tony, I think it's the Guardian on the right and the mail on the left.....

No, the Guardian is definitely on the left of the Mail!

Very good, Eloise, your right of course, or in this case right to say left....

Look out for second hand Fraim: I got mine for less than 50% list price due to some cosmetic marks.
