Nait 5 pre will not power up after un-plugging FlatCap2??

Posted by: Matty74 on 29 January 2016

Hi Folks,

It would be great if someone could help me or has come accross this before.

I was running my nait 5 in standard mode and then tried it with a with a flatcap2, listen to a few tracks and then I removed the flat cap and put the plugs back in the back of the nait5.

The 2 plugs with the ribbon connecting input 4pin and signal B 4pin and the single plug into signal A 5pin, but the pre will not power, no lights.

I plugged the flat cap back in and it powers up OK, and the amp will now only power up now via signal A 5pin.

So I'm completely stumped as to why the amp will not run the plugs and connections are absolutley fine.

If someone can help it would be greatly apprciated.

You've got the connections right so i'd suspect either the link plug in signal A has an issue or more likely the flexy link between input and signal B has broken. The flexy link carries 24v (as well as the L&R signals and ground) from the input socket to the signal B socket. The Signal A link plug just joins the two internal 24v rails which would be split when using an external PSU. Have you got a multimeter to check continuity across the link plugs ?

The ribbon link is quite fragile.  As James says above, it may be broken.  Check it out. You can substitute a SNAIC4 and see if that works.

Its the ribbon just nplugged in a 4 - 4 snaic and it starts up fine, is there a replacement part for the ribbon plugs?

Good you've found the fault

LINK PLUG, FLEXI, 4-WAY, NAIT-5 is what you need - your dealer should be able to sort it out for you (or just keep the Snaic 4 in place)
