Numpty power supply question

Posted by: Mike1951 on 30 January 2016

I'm in the process of emigrating and the proposed power supply is: 220 Volts AC 50Hz from a two-pin plug. Will this drive my NAIM CDX/XPS etc. stack, properly?

If the kit is currently rated for 230V 50hz then yes, you should be fine. But if its currently configured for 115V 60hz then no, it needs to be converted.

Oh. How do I  find out how it's "configured?

Where do you live? If it works in the UK it will be fine. But if you are in the US it won't.

It will be labelled on the back of the box. Either 220v or 115v

Ah yes. My mistake. 230v of course

Two pins won't do alone, you'll need to find a way to a correct earthing tap to assure a safe operation of your equipment, as most of Naim ones are rated Class One and need earthing.

Bye.

So, hmm. There I am, three-pin English plug into a two-pin Spanish plug and no house-wired earth available. What's my next move, exactly?

In Spain you should have IEC Type F sockets - round plug with two pins and earth contacts on the circumference of the plug and on the round recess on the socket.

Are you sure there is no earth on the house?   If not, or if you're not sure, I would contact a local electrician as your next move.  Naim kit must be earthed for safety.

Your local distributor can supply Naim Schucko mains leads that are appropriate for use in Spain.
