I hope it's nothing too serious and he makes a speedy recovery to enjoy his retirement.

Will this end the paranoia over why they were selling their Statement combo ex-demo?

Sad to hear they've had to close.

It was only yesterday that Steve C give me a link to one of Norman's extremely detailed and helpful write ups (done about 5 years ago) that helps me enormously with my CDX2 / CD5 XS selection process.

I add my hopes to those of Steve J that Norman makes sufficient and speedy recovery enough to enjoy his retirement.  Pitty I never knew him personally.

Norman is a lovely man, as is Ian. They provided me with wonderful service. If you read this, Norman, my best wishes to you.

Best wishes from me too Norman. I enjoyed our telephone conversations when I bought some bits and bobs from you.

UHES was one of the very best Naim retailers in the world when actively trading.

They know their Naim stuff extremely well, always responded on time to any phone calls or emails, and always very supportive.

Sorry to hear this. I purchased my DAC V1 from UHES and enjoyed many conversations with Norman about Naim.

I wish Norman a speedy recovery and the best for the future.

Norman

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and an enjoyable retirement. I'm not a local but your generosity and contributions to this forum were always appreciated even from 5,000 miles away.

Shocking news. All the best Norman.

A marvellous Naim retailer. They couldn't have been more helpful when I bought a 500 amp from them, even putting on a lunch for me and the Mrs when we drove down to fetch it. Delightful people. Very best, Norman... get well soon.

Yes, sorry to hear, my last reply was based on information from Norman!

Myself and the Forum wish you a speedy recovery!

Norman told me on Friday, I'm very saddened to hear the news that UHES has closed.  I've dealt with them for about two years, their service has always been exemplary, their Naim knowledge second to none and I feel privileged to call them both our friends.  I plan to stay in touch.

Hopefully a less hectic time will help Norman and keep him in rude health

Eloise,

Their Statement unit was 14 months' old and they were simply moving it on as you do with any demonstration equipment.  That's the explanation they gave me in December.

Sorry to hear the news that Norman is in poor health. It was always a pleasure to welcome him and Ian to our former home in Lowestoft during their summer visits to the town. Always an interesting and lively conversation on the patio with a drink! Norman,  Pam and I wish you a speedy recovery and send our warmest wishes for you retirement.

I never met Norman but have spoken to him at length on a couple of occasions . He always gave me lots of time and great advice . It was very easy to see  why he was so revered by his customers on this forum . I wish you a very speedy recover Norman and  enjoy your retirement .

I am sure that this will be seen as a sad day for those of us who knew Norman and Ian over the years. I knew of this news, but said nothing. However, the news has leaked out, which is somewhat a shame in my view, but never mind.

Equally Norman was a most helpful contributor to the Forum as well.

I wish Norman and Ian all the best for the future!

I'm not sure 'leaked out' is an entirely apt description...

Posted on: 01 February 2016 by George F

Fair enough. When I knew the information, it was very definitely pre-release.

it wasnt leaked, and i resent the implication that I leaked something told in confidence.

I read the website this morning, because I was going to phone them asking if they got my order for QB, because I had heard nothing back from them.

Dear Jon,

I said fair enough to HH. and that is, in itself, fair enough.

I am sure that Norman will be better off away from the stress that the world of hifi seems to generate.

Sorry to hear that Norman and Ian have ceased trading as UHES and that Norman is unwell. A couple of gents for sure. Good luck for the future to both of you.

John.

Preoccupying news indeed. Upon reading the OP I sent Norman and Ian my best wishes for Norman’s prompt recovery. While I never met Norman or Ian in person I have fond memories of long conversations over the phone as he was sharing his extensive knowledge and educating me over the acquisition of 252 and NDS – a very special experience.

We all wish Norman the best to stay active in any way in the Naim and Linn communities for a very long time.

Gutted to hear this - my wife and I had feared the worst since not receiving a reply to a recent email.

Like others, Norman and Ian have become friends of our family, from the first demo of a Naim system over 5 years' ago through it's install and numerous upgrades, offering expert advice, amusing anecdotes, and a superb lunch when we demo'd active vs passive.

We will sorely miss them and wish Norman a speedy recovery and enjoyable retirement.
