Oh the agony of the waiting

My 300 came out of the system just over a week ago to catch an early courier to Naim. We are not quite without music, but a MuSo and a couple of B&O radios cannot match the main system and my Roksan is sitting completely redundant.
My 300 will not be the only one away at Naim at the moment. Wouldn't it be great if Naim posted, somewhere on this forum, where boxes were in the process, from 'received at Naim' through the various stages (how many?) to 'ready for dispatch'?
Without doubt they could set up a 'track my order' type of system, but would you want to pay the extra for the privilege?
It needn't cost much if Naim already track repairs/mods internally, which I suppose they do. Before Naim came into my life, I briefly had a Brennan JB7 for my home office and that went wrong and had to go back for repair. They gave me a returns code and I was able to check into their internal tracking system and see what stage it had got to, including when it was received, when they soak tested it, what parts they had replaced and when it was preparing for dispatch, at which point email notifications took over.
I suspect that Naim would much rather we just asked our dealers though.

Agreed Nick, my 500 is away in Sailsbury at the moment with your 300 being DR upgraded. I am finding a few weeks in the sun in Tenerife is easing the pain of waiting considerably!

Oh, you poor soul! You have all my sympathy. I hope you're not suffering too much. Don't get sunburned and do wear a cap.![]()
I feel your pain Nick. I was sort-of enjoying the music on my Nait XS as a very capable stand-in whilst my 500 is at Salisbury for a service and DR'ing. Then Gary (DB) invited me over for a fix of his 3 x 500 Ovator 800 active set.
Damn, damn, and thrice damn!
John.

We have that kind of system. If you send a Naim unit for service in North America, you receive emails at each stage of the process. Dealers can log in to follow the progress of theirs products more precisely, up to tracking the shipment back home... Technology for a better service... And we realize that it takes very often longer to get the quotation approved by the owner/dealer or to get the payment than to do the service itself. ![]()

As the following reply said, I doubt that it would cost anything extra. I assume Naim run a modern manufacturing system where items are checked into and out of various departments as they are processed.
But in strict answer to the question, the answer is 'yes, I would,' and it should be a right not a privilege.
Referring back to your post Tony, I have a super cap!
Nick, all very fine, but it won't make the wait any shorter... In fact what do they say, a watched kettle never boils! Either way I am certain the wait will be well worth it.
A few years ago I was waiting for a UPS (United parcel service) to deliver a large package of Fraim- there is a tracking system which tells one where the package is located and when it is "out for delivery." Well this was during a bad winter - I live on Long Island, a suburban area outside of New York City. "Out for delivery" should mean that the package will be delivered on that same day. Well I waited at least 4 days without any delivery. Kept calling UPS to no avail.
One evening well after dark I see a UPS truck drive down my street and drop something off a few houses down. Suspecting something was wrong I walked down the street and saw him delivering my huge package to someone else's house. Fortunately I caught the driver who then admitted he had made many mistake on the address. Finally got the package and had a blast assembling my Fraim. If I hadn't noticed the UPS truck that night not sure I would have ever gotten my Fraim.
There is, after all, some form of tracking system update from Naim HQ. My 300 is apparently just about to enter its soak test and should be dispatched on Tuesday, provided no problems are found. However, to ease the pain my friendly local dealer has lent me his fully run-in 300DR demonstrator.
This 300DR is a magnificent little amplifier, bringing further weight and authority to my system. As someone suggested on another thread of mine, the 300DR changes are more significant than the change to SCDR on the 52.
Nick,
I appreciate your agony, returned a dem 300DR to my dealer a week ago . My agony waiting for my recall. Please post when 300DR back home
I would be surprised, if not completely dumbfounded, were my 300DR upgrade to sound any different from the 300DR I have been lent, except for the painful (?) running-in period. The borrowed 300DR has to be back with my dealer (very) early Tuesday and my 300 might be back with him on Wednesday. Perhaps a day without music will be enough to completely re-set my expectations.
Dealer phoned earlier, Naim have recalled my 300 for the DR upgrade. Power amp only as the upgrade only applies to this. PSU only required if having a service
Nick, so is it back yet? Been a while.
Not back yet and even worse (but with huge gratitude to Alastair) I was lent a 300DR over the weekend so we could entertain our house guests. My wife was moved to remark that the 'new' amplifier was a huge lift in performance. The amount of extra detail and depth in the sound was (is and should be) very noticeable. I hope I am not in for a lengthy period of running in when my amplifier returns, but I have been told that most of the running is connected with the PSU part. Time (unfortunately) will tell!
I am trying not to call Alastair; I know he will call as soon as the item appears. It has now been 3 weeks since I powered the system down to remove the 300.
Were I able to play it Jimi Hendrix's 'Rainy Day, Dream Away' would have been an appropriate soundtrack!
Same time-frame of absence here Nick. I am also awaiting the call from The Bucklesham Boys.
John.
Are you waiting for a 500 or 300; the BBs have taken delivery of some 500s freshly DR'd.
Just had an update from Alastair to say that my 300 might make an appearance next Tuesday. Apparently this will meet the Naim quoted turnaround time of 15 working days. If only they worked 24/7 like the NHS currently does and not the 3/3 of our politicians!
Hi Nick,
My 500 (full service and DR'ing) should be one of the ones now resting at Bucklesham.
My friend's 500 which went off in the same batch (just for DR'ing) is apparently not back.
In 24 hours I hope to have music pulsing through the beast at home. I'm as excited as an excited person on an exciting day out.
John.

My 300 is now reported to be boxed and awaiting collection by the courier. All a bit frustrating as were in Southampton with friends at the weekend and could have stayed on an extra day and perhaps have collected the 300 en route (and have missed some of the Monday morning traffic problems?). It has been a long and frustrating wait. I was very nearly tempted to try out my 40 year old (but recently refurbished) Cambridge P50 in the system, but input sensitivities have moved on a bit since the early 70s.

Michael,
Make sure they give you back your 500 rather than Nick's 300!
As 'they' will be a (the same?) dealer there is little opportunity for confusion.
Agreed Nick!
Got the call this morning that the 300 will be delivered between 1348 and 1448. I will be on Alastair's doorstep at 1449. He has been far too generous in his help to countenance his driving the amplifier back to me (and installing it).
Record deck already spinning in anticipation.
(And I have just bought a pair of MA5s to partner my 40+ year old P50 in a second system, which is currently without a source as I search elusively for something suitable.)
