Can one rip SACDs now and what kind of gear does it take? Or is this still not possible because of the drm stuff they build in?

The rip is still only possible with the one method via Playstation.

This piece of software uses

Input Format: SACD Disk Image (ISO Format)

Platform: OS X

it only performs extraction and conversion, and there are freeware programs for that purpose.

Hi Aleg,

many thanks for clarificarion.... you're right, there are some freeware offerings out there to convert iso to dsd/flac...

It seems you still need an old ps3 with old firmware to make the iso file. If you have  the iso file it should be possible to get playable files from there.

Fortunately I think I have 1 SACD so not that big a deal for me at least.

Right...I read the specs again....makes no sense to me because there is plenty of freeware to convert iso to dsd/flac...

There are still some SACDs out there where you can't get the DSD files to download, but I will not buy a PS3 to get it;-))

Is there anywhere selling DSD rips now from this SACDs, there are a couple I would like also, but to be fair is it enough for a HiRes Company to get the rips and sell?

HDT now do DSD but not the music I am particularly after.

Dan,

the PS3 ripping of SACDs is very much like CD ripping i.e. there would be copyright issues involved and I'm sure that Sony wouldn't be too happy about it either which is why this was disabled in later versions of the PS3.
