Cd5 Xs filming over
Posted by: Charles44 on 17 February 2016
Some advice please, I have recently noticed on the illuminated display panel, a black film forming from the top left hand corner and moving into the panel. What is this, is it a known issue that Naim will sort out. This is the second issue I have had with the barely four year old unit. Two years ago the Naim green logo had to be replaced.
It sounds like a fault with the display. I imagine it would be covered by the five year warranty. It's irritating, of course, but easily fixable. Hopefully your dealer can lend you something while it's away.
The display in mine is too and besides my CD5XS seems to be having a problem with the cd mechanism. This is the 2nd time in 2 years odd.
I get the Err... message .... very unpredictably but regularly. I get this even on CD's on whose quality i have no doubt whatsoever.
Thankfully - Naim has agreed to replace the CD mechanism but i will have to send it out of my home country so in that respect you are luckier than i am.
I wanted to ask - does your CD5XS unit play all CD's without skipping or displaying the ERR message ?
have you had any complaints so far or is it just my bad luck ?
all the expansion plans i have on the hardware is contingent upon a predictable and well behaved source. Without it - all else is meaningless.
regards
IIRC, There's a thin gel filter on the display. Sometimes, if pressure is put on the window, often from curious little fingers, the filter can stick to the window and gradually become ever more stuck to it. It looks like an oily film. Talk to your dealer who should be able to sort it out.

Interesting, I purchased the machine in April 2013, new, and within a year it was back with Naim because the drawer caught on something when opened and closed and the logo had just about faded away. Not that good for a one year old machine but both items were fixed. Now I have this. The player is going back to the dealer tomorrow and I can have a loan machine they say. What really annoys me though is that Naim is expensive (for me anyway) and I would not expect to have this sort of issue in a machine I had had for less than three years.

No curious little fingers in this house. Machine being returned on Thursday.

Sorry, I didn't see your other points about cd playing. Touch wood I have no problems with cd playing at all. With regards to cd's I've just had the issue with the cd tray. It seems reliability is an issue.
Cd player returned to Hi fi shop in Nottingham this morning for return to Naim. I am interested to see how long the turn round time is for this repair.
Charlie, naim should be able to give your dealer an estimate of the time it will take to turn the job around, if they ask for one. Can your dealer do the job or are they having to send it back to the factory?
It's gone back to the factory. The shop told me it would be returned inside a month. Interestingly the loan machine , a Cdi, has exactly the same problem.
Your original description sounds very much like what is sometimes called a bleeding logo - there's quite a bit of discussion on the forum from years gone by if you search.
My last player (a CD5i italic) developed this problem about a year ago. It went back to Naim, was fixed perfectly without charge and they tidied up a few other things whilst they were at it. From memory it took about 2 weeks all told.

The bleeding logo was one of the two faults fixed by Naim when I had only had the cd player nine months. This time it is the panel that displays cd track no, elapsed time of track etc. that has bleed a black substance from the top, sides and bottom into the display area. The Cd5i I have been loaned has the same problem.
