Glass speakers?
Posted by: Ebor on 18 February 2016
The Well-Known Auction Site currently has a pair of 'waterfall glass Victoria' floorstanders listed and the picture does indeed look very much like what it says: a pair of glass floorstanding speakers. It even claims they're good with Naim/Linn, though I bet they all say that.
Anyone know anything about these? I have trouble imagining they'll sound good, but stranger things have happened.

They're smashing!

I'm surprised you fell for it, I can see right through them ..
This thread is turning into a right pain already.

Could see that one coming Graeme, so transparent
That cracked me up!
G
Imagine the high frequencies on them - they would be shattering
Crystal clear I've heard.
G
Best with conservatory music.
G
I think they'd be a pane to listen to.

Repetition!

Would they come with a Fraim is the question.
G
They come with Windolene ?
You'd have to get rid of your Ella Fitzgerald tapes.
They had good reviews in France not that long ago - 4-5 years?
Fraim notoriously uses glass ... What's the problem ?
Cinderella owns a pair. Fit for a princess.
Hadn't realised, Waterfall Audio is actually a French company - still operating. How strange.

There was a pair of almost new Waterfall Victoria speakers for sale on that site for £850 in December. I was tempted to buy them for a second system but didn't in the end. The new retail price is over £3000.

Are you being real ?
They might be nicer if filled with water, then one could keep guppies or perhaps a Siamese fighting fish or two. Some nice aquatic plans could provide some useful damping.
The mind boggles as to how an empty glass box with no damping must sound.
Got an award from Hifi Choice a few years ago... Can't be that bad!
Sorrry about the link, Mr Moderator, I won't do it again - I forgot.

I think the reference is to an old Memorex tape TV commercial where Ella hits a high note and breaks glass, only it turns out that it was the Memorex tape of her that actually shattered the glass.
"Is it live, or it is Memorex?"

Dang DrMark you got me .. I thought it was "Is it real, or is it Memorex" .. that's why my smart comment now looks so damn dumb.
