Focal Scala Utopia v2s have arrived

Well, the title says it all really.... The big boys have arrived and the run in process has begun. Straight out of the box they are pretty stunning and prove the Naim - Focal marriage can produce some excellent offspring. I thought the S600s were the end of the journey, but these babies build on the strengths of the Ovator and deliver so much more. Much more to come I suspect. Thanks to James and Henry of Tom Tom Audio for the hard work this afternoon!
Cant wait Dave.
I was hoping it would be ready to pick up tomorrow (my birthday).
It looks like it will be another week....which would be fine if I wasn't leaving on a 2week business trip!
Scott.
I'm sorry it's not going to be back from Naim quite in time for your birthday Scott but it's going to be one hell of a special belated present for you and your Scalas...
cheers

As it's your birthday Scott, I could do you a favour and let James deliver it here - I'd run it in for you, then let you have it back when you return from your trip. By the way, I understand that once modified, they fit the 500DR into exactly the same case as the 300DR, so don't let the difference worry you when you get it back :-)
Dave
You could even wrap it with a nice bow using that big ribbon that came with your Scalas Dave. What a lovely touch.
cheers

Dave, James,
I very much appreciate the thoughts.....how about you just come over when it is all set up and singing and I will keep a bit of birthday cake for you both?
Scott.
Here's the deal Scott, you bake the cake mate and we'll install the amp!
cheers

I thought it would be worthwhile giving a quick update, following a brief visit from James and Henry over lunchtime to check out how the Scalas are settling in. I have had the Scalas for three and a half weeks now and have been excercising them regularly... No surprise there then! I've been listening to a wide variety of music, from heavy rock, through pop, into various forms of folk and finally into classical, and so far nothing has troubled these new speakers.
They manage to communicate the emotion, passion, scale, energy and finesse of everything I have thrown at them. There have been various high points, but a couple of solo piano pieces I like - Alan Parsons, Elsie's Theme from the Sicilian Defense, and Michael Nyman's Debbie - that brought tears to my eyes. The former was the opening music I selected for my mother's funeral, so obvious emotional content there... Both were reproduced stunningly, and I have to say getting piano right is difficult for many systems. The other stand out tracks are London Grammar's Hey Now which can sound over blown and flabby, but has real depth and control when played through the Scalas, and Agnes Obel's, The Curse.
I'm still rediscovering many parts of my music collection - tonight working through The Alan Parsons Project...
Overall, still in awe of what these speakers are capable of.
Dave.
We could not wait to hear how these beauties were opening up and as you've said so eloquently Dave, we were all mesmerised by what we heard today.
The breadth of the Scalas abilities has left an indelible mark. From the incredible vocal articulation on something as pure and simple as Applewood Road through to their vice like grip on Hey Now, a track that all too often gets the better of a loudspeaker.
As you say Dave, truly awe inspiring.
cheers

Congratulations! I have the Focal Diablo Utopias in my system with an NDX, and they sound great! The Scala's are another level altogether ad a classy finish too!
