NDS (or US SSD) Not Recognizing Tidal or Spotify

Posted by: Mostly Drummer on 20 February 2016

I'm unable to log into either Tidal or Spotify via my NDS/US SSD setup. I'm able to play UPnP files without issue, and I can play the last Spotify song I was listening to at my office yesterday via my laptop. But when I try to boot Tidal within the Naim app I get a login screen that freezes when I try to proceed with logging in (log-in info was populated  when the screen popped up, and I was able to repopulate it to make sure the password was correct). When the screen freezes, I'm unable to do anything but back out to main screen of the Naim app. With Spotify, I'm able to play the last song that appears at the bottom of the screen in the Naim app, but when I try to boot the Spotify app (which, as you know, comes up differently than Tidal does within the Naim app), it freezes before I can do anything and gets stuck in a loop that says "connecting" at the bottom. I'm stumped. Has anyone seen this? Thanks.

I also just noticed that I can't get to online metadata when playing ripped files via the NDS/US. Could it be that the NDS can't see the internet for some reason and therefore can't access Tidal, Spotify or metadata?

I rebooted the NDS and server and nothing changed.

Thanks.

It would appear to be a network issue. Did you reboot your modem and router?

I just found it. I had booted the server and streamer but wasn't suspicious of the network because all devices were connecting to it and I had good wireless internet speed on my laptop in the same room. So then I reinstalled the firmware update on the NDS, and nothing.

Then I realized that my iPad that controls all of this wasn't getting to the internet even though it was connected to the network (as was the NDS) and otherwise working fine.  Rebooted the iPad, and everything works fine.

Thanks!

Often if something isn't working, like you describe, but other things continue to work fine on the network, it's because the other things all have IP addresses they are using and something related to what you are doing isn't getting an IP address from the router for some reason.  Rebooting the router is always worth trying in that situation, but you should restart everything else as well unless you know your router us very good at reallocating the same IP addresses on a reboot.

In this instance it was your iPad that didn't have an IP address and rebooting it fixed the problem. You might have been able to fix it by toggling wifi off and on again in the iPad, which is obviously a lot quicker than restarting it.

Good points, David - thanks.

I'm definitely still getting used to having a fully networked stereo (actually, more than one stereo, and house as well).
