Price List 2016

Posted by: Chag... on 24 February 2016

One of my dealers has indicated that the next price list, and increase, are expected end of March. Do you have the same information?

interesting. The streamers have crept up less than 5% as have the classic power amps but the preamps have stayed the same or even gone down in price as have the non DR power amps.

Cue the speculation mill. I won't participate in those specifics, only to say that I bet there is a new version of the 2016 price list will be here by July.

Maybe just a reflection of the economic environment in the U.K.

But the price increase for the DR poweramps doesn't apply until August.

Very intresting ?

It's interesting that the new prices start in May, rather than April, which has been the practice until now.

And no speakers.... sniff, sniff.....

More interesting than the price list is HH's tabs.

Appalled. The appearance of the dreaded £9.99 is just so not Naim, mind you it is even more of a pity that is not the new price for an Xps, my next intended purchase.

in fact, and without wishing to hijack the thread, would I get full money's worth buying two Xps', one for my 272 and one for the Cdx2? Presumably if funds only permit one, then the Cdx2 gets priority, bearing in mind that my current listening is about 40% vinyl, 40% CD and 20% Tidal/Internet Radio

Surely putting it on the 272 would give you at least some benefit with all sources, so maybe a better place to put it?

I sold my CDX2 to fund the purchase of the N272/250DR and have not looked back. I put a NAS together for @£300 and am enjoying the convenience of all my music being readily accessible and also the benefit of hi res music. I also happen to think that the 272 (with ripped CDs) has a more natural presentation than the CDX 2 - but you're probably in a better position to judge that, given your running both at the same time.

I know many are (for a variety of reasons) reluctant to let their CDPs go - but if I were you, I'd sell it and get yourself a power supply for the 272. As I'm sure you've seen, many rave about the XPS DR on the 272 - I can only give meaningful feedback on the 555DR - the results are simply breath taking. Not only will you save a few quid (buying only one PSU), you should be able to realise a couple of grand or more from the CDX2. I appreciate in my case, I'd had the CDX2 for 7 years, so £2000 seemed a reasonable sale price - if you've not had yours long then in may not seem so attractive.

If you do stick with the CDX2 and go for a single XPS to begin with - I'd put it on the 272 as all sources would see some benefit. My Gyrodec has really benefited from the 555 on the 272.

FWIW when I had my CDX2 on a SN1+HC I didn't feel the XPS (before DR days) made enough of a difference to justify the cost. The 555 however transformed it but the in house CFO was not allowing me access to the PO pad!!

price list now fits on one page using reasonably readable font size -- absence of speakers very noticeable.

i actually dreamt that SL2s were back -- but looking at the price list -- i can see now that, yes, that was a rather cruel dream ...

enjoy...

Reassuring to see that Naim's best source is also the less expensive :-)

£18.48 incl. VAT each according to the TomTom website.

Bizarrely they are £8.48 each including VAT on another website - and that was the price that I bought them at about 6 months ago

The Leicestershire dealer's website still has them at £8.48  - and I've just bought three from James at the higher price - damn!

Thank you for the UK price list. Rumour has it that prices are going up by 10-12% in France - no idea whether it's true or not. The fact that Focal is now Naim's distributor in France might account for a totally unwarranted increase. This would mean that in less than eighteen months, a Supernait 2 would have gone up from 3,500 euros to over 5,000 euros. I just hope it's not true.

I see Super Lumina prices are up - which if I was a betting person - I would have said No, surely they are high enough!

Just got my order for "full loom" in ahead of the deadline.   Who knows, at this rate, I'll be looking back and saying what a bargain they were.

I love the term 'full loom' sounds like something a Vietnam vet suffers from during a harrowing flashback!!

i wish I was going "full loom"

Full Loon is perhaps more apt.  If you read the extensive thread last year on the topic you will see what I mean.

As I bought 18 it would have made a significant difference

£ 1.850 for 3 metre length of Naims reference speaker cable !!!  You guys really do not know how lucky you are if you think that is THE destination of your scale of funds to get the best out of your kit.

Posted on: 01 April 2016 by TOBYJUG

.......that's per stereo pair ,yes.  Or mono length.. ?

Posted on: 01 April 2016 by Chris Dolan

Per stereo pair - so a veritable bargain

I'm surprised though that the increase was not applied uniformly on a per metre basis for all lengths of SL speaker cable.

Hi Toby,

is your point that Naim users are getting off lightly compared to some (eg Nordost users)?

Interestingly, the price rises are not uniform. For example, moderate rises in the streamers and unitis, but prices stayed constant, compared to 2015, for the harddisk players and the preamps (apart from 152 XS, and of course 172/272). If price rise-% mirror product lifespan, then we're going to see new harddisk players and preamps soon!

Stefan,

Yes, I had the same observation too. It is well known that price adjusment are done primarily to maintain/improve profit margin and it is also a function market demand.

Or it's also well known that price rises simply ensure the ratio of cost to retail price is maintained... and those components with large transformers for example are seeing more of a rise, copper is getting quite a bit more expensive .. and the preamps don't use such components..(there may be other reasons for the HDX and 152XS) ..  this following input cost rises possibly accounts for the delay in certain price rises  in I suspect  an increasingly price sensitive global market .

Personally I would be suprised of any preamp change ahead of a major portfolio appearance redesign.. and even then I suspect it will mostly be cosmetic. The preamp is one of the incredible enduring products of Naim and arguably some of the strongest products in the portfolio, and so any change will need to demonstrate clear advancement... I suspect there are easier pickings for improvement elsewhere...
