NAC152XS and NAP250DR?

Posted by: robgr on 25 February 2016

I currently have a NAC152 XS partnered with a NAP155 XS

I have just acquired a NAP250DR but intend to partner it with a NAC-N 272 which I haven't yet bought

Does anyopne see any issues with swapping out the 155 with the 250 at this stage?

I can then at least get sight of what it's capable of and begin to run it in

Yes. It won't work without a power supply on the preamp. NAP250 and above don't supply power to a preamp. Have you got a Flat cap?

If you don't mind me saying you've gone about this the wrong way round. The 250DR is a class leading high-end power amp but no disrespect to the 152xs it will just not give a real "sight" of what the 250 can do.  It will work but the 250 needs at least a 272 or 282 to really show its potential.   You'll want to get that 272 very quickly!!

Incidentally, at the risk of stating the blindingly obvious,  do you have a FC or HC for the 152 because the 250 unlike the 200 or 155 will not power a pre-amp?

Sorry just read your profile you have a FC.  See also that you have HDX - are you going to trade that for te 272 to reduce the box count.  Not a bad idea but if that isn't your intent i'd think about partnering the HDX and 250 with a 282.  Options options!!!!

Just plug the 250 in. It will be fine until the 272 arrives.

Many thanks all for your advice, I should have said that I do have a FC and that the 272 will be along within a week so there is a plan (of sorts) :-)
