Mu-so Qb 48kHZ

Posted by: sailorck on 26 February 2016

Good evening, dear Naim fellows.

I might buy a Mus-so Qb next week. My music is flac only, 90% red book, 9% 24bit/96kHz and 1% 24bit/192kHz (rough estimation). Since I am using an Auralic Aries in my main system, I stream (wirelessly) all files directly from a network share. What kind of infrastructure do I need for running a Qb? Will a network share not be enough? If I need to install some kind of UPnP-Server, do I need to configure it to downsample the high-res files?

I wonder, why Naim will use 2.4 GHz wireless band instead of 5 GHz.

Your comments are greatly appreciated.

All the best!

On the wireless band, see also discussion at https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...82#54645535609365182

Ok, I think I found the answer to my UPnP question inside the knowledge base: http://support.naimaudio.com/

The discussion on the wireless band is very, very disappointing.

The specification is the disappointment

For the function it serves, small, discrete, cheap by Naim standards, the Qb is ideal and, like the Muso, it sounds great. I heard it at the Bristol Hi Fi Show. If you are worried about pure HiFi quality the 500DR with Focal Supra2s sounded fine, but the Super Lumina leads alone would probably buy a house full of Qbs.

Of course it is not pure hi-fi quality that is a concern at this level (although it is greater than is reasonably to be expected for the format and price).

Specification limitations inherited from other streaming products are perhaps more of a concern given the new areas of use the Mu-so and Qb are opening up. For example, those using Mu-so as a TV sound bar will not be able to listen to TV sound on the Qb when they pop to the kitchen.
