New boxes have arrived
Posted by: wenger2015 on 29 February 2016
Just taken delivery of a nac 282, Nap 250Dr, Hicap Dr to accompany my cdx2 and Sopra2's which were purchased end of last year. Set everything up last night with the assistance of my super intelligent son in law, left boxes to run through the night....all seems very good initially, I'm told the new boxes take a little time to run in... not sure how long?......I've previously been using the supernait ...which certainly worked, but I'm hoping now to be able to hear the full potential of the Sopra2's.... Looking forward to the next few days....

I didn't realise changing the power lead on a napsc was a worth doing, you obviously have and it's made an improvement ?
It was the first Poweline I tried. Dealer, on a tip from Salisbury, got in touch and offered to pop round in the evening to give it a go. Within the first 10 secs of the song both of us were pretty stunned at the difference it made. I ordered one straightaway. Since then I've bought four more but it the first on the Napsc that made the biggest difference in my system. When I posted about this a couple of years ago a few other members tried and most reported positive benefit. Not all, but most. It's easy and cost-free to try it.

Thanks for the welcome, I hope theirs no iniation ceremony to go through!!! Lol
Just wondering how long the 250dr & 282 will take to settle down and start singing ? Any ideas ?
I think the 282 took longer - say 3 months? But the biggest change was in the 1st month. The 250 I think was pretty well there after a couple of days.
Sorry - repeat but an XPS2 - a used non DR will be fine - transforms the CDX2.

Thanks for the tip....just one question, do you think you need one on each box?

Yes I agree totally about the xps, everytime I've heard one it's made a significant difference.
I suppose it's just a matter of being patient regarding the run in time..

'Need' is a bit subjective, of course. And PLs aren't cheap. Probably best to try one at a time on each box and decide whether (a) you can hear an improvement and if so (b) whether the improvement justifies the cost.
In my experience the PL on the Napsc gave the biggest benefit and if I could afford only one, that is where it would go.

I'm in Buckingham - east of Oxford on way to Milton Keynes - if ever your this way happy to provide a coffee and few tunes to give you a flavour.

wenger2015 posted:Hi RSCH, interesting that the most significant change came with the powerline to the Hicap...previously it was mentioned the napsc ....maybe I need to demo with one on each...
Was the change with the Hicap straight away or did it need time to burn in?
Hi Wenger,
I bought them as new stock, apparently were mint and boxed but i can't swear being totally unused.
Another nice surprise was the effect carried on my bare XS before the 552 arrival. It gave a nice smooth
open and relaxed sounstage,
Compared with a previous set up including 555/PS DR into Nait XS/HC DR and SL2, the only
drawback was a little loss of clarity, micro detail and slam but with benefits in terms of smoothness and refinement.
We have to bear in mind that a new dedicated Fraim stack for 555 head was put into the equation.
Regards
Roberto

Thanks Strat. If I ever get up your way I'll give you a shout. I'll bring a hand full of CDs and a pint of milk.

I have 2 powerlines, one is on cdx2 and the 2nd on the nap250 Dr, I thought before I start experimenting I need to wait until boxes have gone through break in period. But I'm very interested to see what works...

Sounds like you have a very nice set up, and that naim fraim would certainly have an impact.
I've decided it's best to wait until my new boxes have gone through the break in period, then I might experiment with the powerlines.

What pills do you recommend ? And any particular colour pills? Lol
Just an update on the new boxes, I've had everything up and running constantly night and day for about 75 hours.
Finally experienced that night and day moment when the new boxes decided to burst into life. What a transformation, something I've not experienced before, the depth, warmth, detail is simply stunning, if anyone is thinking of the 282/250dr/cdx2/Hicap dr with a pair of Sopra2's combination ...then all I can say is it works extremely well.
Lucky you!
My 282 / SuperCapDR / 250DR is still a bit 'stiff' - tortured it all day today with music - off sick at home, so plenty of time to play loads and loads.... Things are starting to move, but still a bit to go

How long have you had your boxes? I was under the impression everything needed about 500 hrs, which is one hell of a long time! Maybe I have just got lucky, or maybe the boxes could hear me crying at the 74 hour point!!!
Around 2 weeks - they got to play perhaps 50-60 hours. The good thing is that they are integrated with the AV setup, so they get their workout even when TV is being watched.

One thing that possibly helped the process for me was using a system preparation cd, I've got the tq one, I had it going during the night a couple of times, it's not the sort of thing you would want to listen too, but fine if your asleep!!!
Ps hope your feeling better soon
Thanks! We've had some crazy weather down here in Warsaw - snow, than +10 the next day. On and off for a week. Probably too much to handle. Skiing last week probably did not help either....
Yeap - subjected my boxes to the TQ disc as well. It's quite a handy torture device
too.
Whilst we at that topic - how often do you use Track 3 (the system refresher one)?

The TQ is ideal for unwanted visitors!!! I tell them it's kraftworks latest cd...
I used the refresher cd quite a bit whilst running in the sopra'2s, usually just put it on repeat over night, same with running in the new boxes, so I haven't just used track 3..
