Naim app for OSX

Posted by: Dan.S on 29 February 2016

Hello dear naimers,

Is it possible to control a SuperUniti from a Macbook? Can we somehow fool the app into thinking it's working from iOS? Or perhaps there's another easier way to achieve this.

Thanks.

I suspect that by far the easiest way is to buy an old iPhone or iPad or an Android phone or tablet and run the relevant app the way it is supposed to be run. I suppose you might be able to run the IOS app in an IOS emulator for MacBook but even if you can get it to work, I should think it will be clunky and a pain all round.

We already have the house full of tablets and iphones but I wont to be able to work and control this doomsday machine on the same "device". A mac. Can it be done?

I don't think you will be able to use the Naim IOS app but there may be another generic or third party app which will run on a Mac and control some of the SuperUniti functions, but someone who has done it will have to say what and how.

This has been discussed quite a few times before if you're brave enough to attempt the forum search facility. My solution is a third party app called QuteControl which allows Naim streamers to be controlled from OSX. It's rather basic, and you may need to insert an IP address manually, but it's fine for just selecting and playing music.

If you don't mind getting a bit down and dirty you can install googles arc welder, and then download the naim app to run on your mac.

You need google chrome to achieve this, it does work sort of.

That's just what I meant. A lot more straight forward just to install the Naim app on a phone.........

Garyi, it works! Thanks. It tends to spin the cpu cooler more, but that's quite alright.

Yea its a bit lumpy but as you say it does work. I did find I had to turn compatibility on or off, cannot remember which for the smoothest experience.

A NAIM app for computers has my vote.

NAIM should really commission there software team to make an app for Mac and Windows and maybe Linux. I can't imagine it is a very complicated piece of software. And I am certain High-End home audio streaming deserves that sort of convenience.

I am waiting for it :-) In the meantime I will struggle along with QuteControl.

If you run BubbleUPnP on your server or NAS and present your NAIM devices as an OpenHome streamer you can use Linn Kazoo to control it on your MAC...

I've recenty installed BubbleUPnP on my MacBook, which is running MinimServer, and so far it's working very well with Linn Kazoo as control point for my SuperUniti, both on the MacBook and iPad.  It would be excellent if Naim produced a desktop version of their app.

I use Windows 10 and would also like to have desktop app to control the NDX (which should arrive tomorrow). JRiver works but I would like to use Asset as server.

Do you guys think that Linn's SkrobbleDS (last.fm scrobbler) would also work somehow with BubbleUPnP + server combination?

Sorry for going slightly offtopic.
