Unitiserve backup

Posted by: NaitRider on 01 March 2016

Hello All,

I have been trying to backup my Userve 2TB to a Qnap 253 NAS but a thing that seems not to be rocket science will not work at all.. Tried some RTFM but the Userve will not connect to the Qnap and the Desktop Client will not find neither the Userve nor the Qnap.

No source drive or destination drive and there seems not to be possible to browse any of these in the DTC. Both the Userve and client are updated to the latest version.  The Userve seems to be like and oyster so far and the only answer is "Unable to convert share NASxx/Userve Backup to Music Backup"

Any hints how to finally get this right?

I had a similar problem that had me baffled for hours when I had a US. The share on the NAS needs to be empty, otherwise the US cannot convert it to a store for backup. I eventually found that the share created on my QNAP HS251 NAS was not empty but contained a recycle bin. You need to create the share without a recycle bin. I can't tell you how to do that at the moment because my NAS is at home and I am at work. I hope this helps.

Thank you!

I will try to recycle the bin.

!

BTW, if you accept the default settings, the Qnap creates a clouple of folders. Is there a way of removing these, I can add and remove the folders I have created but the defalult ones seems to be locked?

Hi there,

I'm still confused about the NAS and UnitiServe thing. If you have a NAS drive what's the point of a Serve? Is it just to make ripping easier?

Thanks

Naitrider,

You might find information in the following post helpful: https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...ly=51267011725071066

Andymoss,

Good point! After ripping all my CDs with the US and installing Asset UPnP on my NAS, I eventually sold the US. I don't buy CDs any more, just downloads (CD quality or preferably high res).

Thanks DSC! I will check this thread, funny I did not find it when I searched the forum.

Andy,

I have so far used my US as a primary ripper and storage, but I feel I must make a back up of the US. I have just started the Qnap adventure..

The advantage with the US is that it so far has been pay, plug, & play.

Kind Regards

Thomas
