Powerline with Uniti 3
Posted by: S3 on 01 March 2016
I have a uniti 2 with Kudos x2 and chord epic. I may look to add a powerline. Before I trial one I'm interested in anyone's experience of the PL with the U2. Many thanks
If I understand correctly your are using SuperUniti.
As a rule of thumb all Naim amplifiers need speaker cables of around 3 to 3.5 meters minimum. So 1.5m is a bit short.
Speaker positioning rule: equilateral triangle with your listening position. Try with no toe-in to beging with and work from there.

S3 (& Adam) I understand modern Naim integrated amps are not so fussy about speaker cable, but to fine tune, it is best to get it right. The Naim length recommendation is actually specifying NACA5, not a "general" speaker cable. Its actually specifying NACA5 wrt its inductance properties - NACA5 is 1uH/m & the Naim amp minimum recommended load is 3.5uH = 3.5m. Chord Epic is a screened version of Odyssey & my Odyssey measures around 0.6uH/m, so ideally you need about 5m to get the recommended inductance load.
But if it sounds OK with 1.5m, so what, nothing wrong. But I would be tempted to go for something longer tho'
S3 posted:I have the Unitiserve set up and it is working well; an excellent device - very easy to use. I'm methodically ripping CDs to it. Interestingly on some CDs it makes a loud humming noise during the rip whilst on others it is quieter. I guess its to do with the disc itself (balance, flatness etc).
Regarding the point made around SQ between Spotify and Tidal it is a strange one; Spotify did sound better if anything and I had Tidal set to hifi / FLAC so very odd. I must say also that Spotify sounds as good if not slightly better than the files played through the US (even those downloaded at 24bit) which can not be right! Can anyone give any advice as to how I might check to see if my Kudos X2 speakers are set up / positioned incorrectly? I'm using 1.5m runs of chord epic with origonal chord terminations. I've ensured that the epics are dressed properly and are not touching any power cables.
Many thanks
This is a serious problem. Can you have your local dealer assist with setup? The streamed files should sound so much better than Spotify. Are you streaming wav files?
Yes I'm playing WAV files from the U.S. I didn't buy any if the equipment from my local dealer so he will have no interest in coming to check it out. Do any dealers offer a consultancy service? The system sounds good; it's just that the spotify stream sounds as good or possibly better than the other sources.
You could always visit your local dealer, explain the situation, and ask to listen to their Uniti playing both streamed WAV and Spotify. If it sounds the same as you are hearing at home, then it must be for some reason that you prefer the sound of Spotify, or simply cannot discern the difference.
