DJ and collector Coleen "Cosmo" Murphy is hosting a two-part history of the turntable on BBC Radio 4 next week (8th March).

Ep 1 covers "the turntable's early history from its invention by Emil Berliner to its acceptance in Edwardian society. Coleen talks i to John Liffen of the Science Museum and Christopher Proudfoot of the British Phonograph and Gramophone Society as well as to Antiques Roadshow expert Paul Atterbury."

Part two covers, among other topics, "the weird and wonderful world of high-end audio" and features none other than Michael Fremer.

It was a splendid programme - if it had a fault, it was that it was not long enough. Highly recommended.

I bet it wasn't long enough, and I'm sure if they got too technical, sooo easy to do, most people's eyes would glaze over or they'd start a huge debate over tiny details.  Still it must have been nice to see that on TV.  Unless BBCAmerica puts it on instead of the constant Star Trek nights I'll never see it.
