152/155 with unitiqute 2?

So I happened across a second hand deal for a 152/155 XS and I'm wondering if it's worth pulling the trigger on. I haven't heard that combo before but a separate pre/power has always been interesting.

Current system is a Rega RP6/fono/unitiqute 2/PMC DB1i

Eventually I'd get an ND5 XS to complement it, but use the qute as a source in the meantime.

Worth entertaining the idea or not?

Yes

It's  certainly worth entertaining and I fondly remember my 112x/150x the precursors of your current query.

However, you have to ask yourself are you willing to go down the multi- box route. Before long you'll possicle have 5 boxes where you have one now. ND5xs - XPS- 152 - 155 - FC, get fed up with all these and go buy a Devialet.

A superUniti may be all you need/want and it may be better to wait?

Having said that a pre-power combo is Naim's bread and butter and could be the basis of a wonderful system. Before you "trade up"  to an ND5 take a look at Roon and consider whether you would like to be able to use such an interface in the future. There will be a lot of interesting Roon end-points released this year.

A nice quandary though, just make your decisions with an eye to where you might like to end up.

Hi,

I am just replacing my 152/155/FCxs and I think it is a great combination. It was fine on its own but really improved with the addition of the FCxs with both power supplies feeding the 152. The music became more realistic and came forward of the speakers with better separation. Have a listen at your dealer and try it with the FCxs, I'm sure you will feel it is worth the difference. An FCxs can be picked up relatively cheaply but you will need 2 Snaic leads.

I have 4 XS boxes - ND5, 152, 155, FC - and it's a very good hifi IMO.  I say go for it but be prepared to add the mandatory Flatcap.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed, go for it.

Thanks for the feedback/opinions.

I've had a further chat with the person selling the 152/155 combo, it's actually an ex demo unit with full warranty.

Sounds like a good way to start down the path of a separates system

After a month with Nait 5i i exchanged to 152/155. The sound doesn't carry the weight compared to the Nait until i added FCXS.. When you have he funds, yes go for it GT!

I'd just get the 155 and use it with the Qute. Later, swap the Qute for a 172.

I'd agree with the comment above if the OP didn't have an analog rig in use.

I have the fono, aLp12 and used UQ with NAP200. A very good combination but the massive leap in performance for analog was the use of a better preamp. He could as well use his UQ as the 172 wouldn't add much into the party both sides.

So I ended up buying them. They arrived today and I've just set them up, sadly the preamp isn't powering on.

I've double checked the cables. What's the most likely culprit? Pre? Power? Snaic?

Is there anything I can do at home to check where the fault is?

The 152 needs two link plugs inserted, if it is used without a Flatcap. If they are not fitted, it won't work. If they are not in the box, moan to the seller ASAP.

Thanks! Looks like that's the problem, only one of the link plugs is there. Upgrade link 2 is bare.

Good, at least you know what to do. It's a real pain when sellers cannot be bothered to check the equipment properly when they pack it up, and seems to happen all too often. The new owner gets the equipment they have been waiting for, sets it all up carefully and...... silence. Let's hope they can get the plug posted to you today.
